Maybe its because of the slow motion but looked like Ellington could have cut it back at the 4 hole.

I remember Dawg and I posting about this in the game day thread. Cooper did a good job IMO and Ellington should have busted it up inside. Dawg thought Coop didn't seal the edge.
Watch the replay man, it was a good pull by Coop and Ellington should have cut inside for gain. Coop sealed his man outside but that's where Duke took it. He should have cut upfield.
Probably tired of getting hammered inside. Not a 20 carry inside the tackles guy. That would have gone for a big gain had Ellington cut it back up inside. Is it just me or does Ellington seem to have trouble reading his blocks especially when the play calls for runs inside between the tackles. It seems like he doesn't see the hole or pick the correct hole to run through.
To be fair, it's not like Cooper blocked his guy, either. Looked good pulling; the blocking needs work.
That's a defensive back who stood up the Top 10 pick.
I wouldn't call it stood up and when you are running and the other guy plants, he has the leverage advantage anyway. I've leveled guys bigger than me when they were charging me and I was able to plant.
Point of the gif? He looks like his legs are under him 100% now. Very fast and fluid on that pull. Good news for the future.
As a big guy.
You have to get lower. Play the leverage game all you want, but I have 50+ lbs.
Get low and de-cleat the SOB. ..........that all being said, this IS the NFL we are talking about, uber-athletes.
Well yes, getting low is how I won those situations but its hard to get low when you are sprinting to your block. He would have to do a quick stop plant or something. I didnt play OL much so I am not educated in all the blocking techniques for full speed blocks.
I'm 6'5 240 so there haven't been many times I had to stone a larger man but it has happened.

Okay. So it doesn't matter whether he can actually block opposing players as long as he can run around like a chicken with his head cut off.
Jonathan Cooper weights at least 100 lbs more than Desmond Trufant, and he was running at him at full speed. Yikes.

He got to and blocked the man that he was supposed to block. Whether or not he knocks him on his ass is irrelevant isn't it? Or are you saying that if his target was larger there might have been a different result?
Ellington is the one that deserves criticism on that play, not Coop imo.
Cooper gets to his guy, but he doesn't block him. That's why Cooper spins around after contact.
As the pulling guard, you should be able to obliterate a 190 lbs. defensive back. Even if you don't, you should be able to give your RB a two-way go on either side of your block. Cooper gets turned around and Trufant actually has inside leverage on Cooper, which means that he's in the hole/gap that Coopers supposed to be clearing out.
The good news is that Cooper seems to have all the agility that we hoped when we drafted him back. His technique is a disaster right now, but that's a coaching and practice thing. Not sure he'll be able to catch up this season.
