Is anyone else watching this?

Argentina is hosting and had to salvage a draw 1-1 against Bolivia in their opening match.

Right now Brazil and Venezuela are tied 0-0 in the 84th minute.

Pretty unimpressive showing by the two favorites so far. I still expect one of them to take it though.

Uruguay and Chile have very good teams as well, they might put up a good challenge.

Brazil and Argentina are the 2 best teams in the tournament but I was surprised at both of their poor starts.

I agree about Uruguay & Chile both were succesful in the last WC and have a good deal of talent.

Copa America is always such a good tournament to watch.

Did Mexico get to replace the players they lost due to getting prostitutes? Kinda lame reason to suspend them for 6 months if you ask me.

Yeah, it was with 8 players from the U-20 team. We were already handicapped with U22 players, the incident dealt another blow. I'll be happy with simply getting out of the group.

Today's games:

Uruguay-Peru
Chile-Mexico

Zeno, what determines who gets invited to the tournament from the concacaf? I know Mexico is a regular, but the US has made a few appearances here and there. Any reason Costa Rica got the nod over the US?

I think US didn't get an invite because the Copa America organizers were upset with the team the US sent to the one in 2007. They were pretty vocal in their displeasure right after that tournament. I had thought I read somewhere Australlia turned down and invite for some reason so they turned to Costa Rica.

I wasn't, Brazil and Argentina have not been elite teams for some years now.

1 win in the past 5 games for Argentina, that came vs Albania in Buenos Aires. Losses to Nigeria, Poland, draws vs Colombia and Bolivia, they'll probably drop out of the top 10 if they cant beat Costa Rica.

Muslera is a solid keeper, its a shame that Lazio weren't able to keep him.

Brazil misses 4 straight PKs, that was pretty surprising. Venezuela giving Chile hell right now, tied at 1. oping for a Venezuelan upset to continue this giant-slaying weekend.

Italy, France? Maybe. England? Doubt it. I got my money on Germany. Netherlands, Portugal, Croatia have good teams as well.

Theres a total of 8 teams. The winners of each FIFA confederation (CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, UEFA, AFC, CAF, OFC) cups, as well as the previous WC winner, and the nation hosting the tournament.

Thought so. Man, it would have been great if USA could have been in that one. What experience.

Should be a 12 team tourney IMO.

Seems a bit unfair to the countries who win their tournaments, dont you think?

You don't have to win a major tournament to qualify for the World Cup.
