The Diamondbacks announced their starting pitchers for their season-opening two-game series in Australia, tabbing left-hander Patrick Corbin and right-hander Trevor Cahill as their choices for the two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

With the Diamondbacks as the designated home team, Corbin will throw the first pitch of the 2014 major league season. He was one of the better pitchers in the National League last year, posting a 3.41 ERA in 208 1/3 innings in his first full season in the big leagues.
That is a lot of pressure on a kid going into his second full season. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

Let's see if the Dodgers leave their two aces at home, like they've teased.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out - and with the delay between these two games, and the rest of the season, they could conceivably pitch them the next two games as well.

I think Cahill is going second not because they think he is the second best pitcher but because he had success against the Dodgers last year.

This only sucks because we learned from BC867 that if he struggles now we HAVE to trade him. He's been broken.

LOL. I searched this thread for a post of mine but couldn't find one.

I'm sorry, but I just don't think that Cahill looks like a pitcher. He looks more like my late father when he was 50.

Here's another one for you. Bronson Arroyo had to skip his first D'backs spring training appearance because of tightness in his back. Ouch!

The manager's reaction. "He's never really had a history of missing starts." Not until now, Gibby!

LOL. I searched this thread for a post of mine but couldn't find one.

Once you make a pitcher your ace (unless he is 38 years old), it is a negative to demote him to middle-to-back of the rotation on the team.

It makes much more sense, for him and the team, to move him to another team rather than demote him and keep him.

It is the ol' Peter Principle. "In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence."

A person promoted at work, who reaches a position they can't cut, would be the first to start job-hunting elsewhere at the level he previously held.

The D'backs took a chance making Kennedy the ace and faced the consequences of his failure to fulfill it. There was nothing wrong with trying it . . . and nothing wrong with resolving it in the most positive way.

You forget your sage insights so soon?

Like I said, now that Corbin has been made opening day starter, if he struggles we have to trade him because it's a negative, right?

You don't see the difference between Kennedy and Corbin?

Kennedy was our ace over seasons and declined.

Corbin has yet to reach that level. The question is not should he keep the job. It is should he have been named to the job? I believe not. My opinion.

Your make a general statement ("make a pitcher an ace") and the moment it's generally applied you want to debate specifics?

Glad to know you're on the record for not wanting Corbin to be the opening day starter though.

Do you just come in here to pick fights with posters or are you ever going to add some baseball discussion?

Do you find it ironic that you're picking a fight with a poster right now? I do..

I add baseball discussion when there is something to discuss, like this post. Funnily enough a fight was picked with me over that baseball discussion. Wanna address them too or am I just special? Hell half the posts on here pick fights more than discuss baseball. Neither Phrazbit nor Lefty can make a comment without being called a "hater" or some crap.

I am not picking a fight with a poster. I am moderating a poster who brings little to the board but arguments. Big difference. And if you like, I can show you exactly what that difference is.

So please continue and see how it works out for you.
