EDMONTON – Where there is smoke, there is fire.

Where there is fire, there is often fireworks.

The Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues are trading blows with each other early in Wednesday night’s game. Fans shouldn’t expect any less, given that playoff implications are hanging on this contest.

The Oilers got Connor McDavid back for this game, despite not having Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in addition to Jake Walman. Because of these issues, the team is going with 12 forwards and five defenders.

The game is off to a chippy start for sure. The Oilers went to a powerplay early, and then all heck broke loose.

Corey Perry was in his typical place around the net, poking around a loose puck. Then Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington punched Perry in the back of the head.

After Perry fell to the ice, Binnington jumped on him, and everyone else got involved. Instead of fighting Binnington, Perry ended up dropping the gloves with Jake Neighbors.

Perry hasn’t been afraid to drop the gloves this season. His tilt with neighbors is his fifth fight of the season.

The Oilers need some jam, some bite to their game, and seeing everyone on the ice get involved once Perry was jumped was a welcome sight.

For the Oilers’ sake, let’s hope that jump translates to the scoreboard.
