Is it made of kryptonite?

A lightsaber uses crystals to focus the blade. Under certain conditions, the crystals emit light and energy. Kryptonite is not typically crystalline; it's usually a metal or a rock. The crystalline versions of Kryptonite that have existed have emitted radiation, just like Green Kryptonite, rather than light or energy.

Kryptonite affects Superman because of its radioactive properties. Adding kryptonite would only make a lightsaber more deadly to him if the resulting weapon emitted the same radiation.

Superman's two major weaknesses are Kryptonite and magic.

If the crystals used to create a lightsaber were magical and adding them to a lightsaber resulted in making it emit a magical stream you might have a shot.

Lightsabers in the films didn't always cut through metal very easily. The blast doors in Episode One for example.

If you believe Lucas though: A lightsaber can cut through anything except another lightsaber. (Which doesn't explain why Luke's lightsaber seemed to bounce off Vader's shoulder in their battle in Cloud City...and also the energy doors in Duel of the Fates...)

I doubt Superman would just sit there and let the lightsaber cut through him. Given his alien genetics and increased strength and other powers from our Sun he would put up a good fight and I doubt a slash from a lightsaber would cut right through him.

A lightsaber versus a weakened or unconscious Supes might have a chance.

Some variables:

Which version of Superman? There have been many versions over the years with some differences in their makeup/abilities.

Is Superman in the Star Wars Universe or is a Jedi or Sith in the DC Universe?

Vegas, baby, yeah!
I think a more pertinent question is: Are YOU in this universe??

5/5!

[edit] - I nominate BIM to be the boards Theoretical Physicist for Alternate Universes.

Can someone address how Vader's light sabre didn't but through Obi Wan. Obi Wan just sort of disappeared. Leaving the robe.

I suppose, as a first grader, such a sight would have scarred me for life.

I think that, if somehow Superman was not able to resist the lightsabre (or if he was dead, for example) I don't see why the lightsabre wouldn't cut through him. But I suppose there is a reason why bullets bounce off him.

pfft. You are clearly in the minority.

Sometimes it's lonely being right.

Superman has bled from much less than a lightsaber.

That is what I was I was thinking. And if the lightsaber comes from a galaxy far far away, and he doesn't have the "different sun whatever whatever advantage" even the dopey Jumper Vader slices and dices him.

Thanks DCR.

Do we need a thread on how the Christian Bale Batman is more equipped to avoid a lightsabre death than Superman is?
