The Washington Commanders have been busy this offseason. Adam Peters has traded for wide receiver Deebo Samuel and offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil to better protect Jayden Daniels and give him another target to throw to. The 2025 NFL draft is just a few weeks away, and they'll answer some additional questions then. But they might still have needs after the draft, as with other teams, leaving windows of opportunity for trades.

The Commanders aren't afraid of trading, as we've already seen this year, and they might have another opportunity to increase their offensive weapons if they can work out a trade with the New York Jets for running back Breece Hall. Bleacher Report suggests:

Jets receive: 2025 fourth-round pick (No. 128 overall), WR Luke McCaffrey

Commanders receive: RB Breece Hall

After being one of the breakout surprises of the 2024 NFL season and making an unexpected run to the NFC Championship Game, the Washington Commanders are seeking to set themselves up as a contender for years to come.

The team has prioritized building the offense around up-and-coming quarterback Jayden Daniels, capitalizing on his cheap rookie scale contract to add impact veterans such as Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil via trade. Washington could now swing another move to reinforce the backfield, trading away wideout Luke McCaffrey and a fourth-round pick for Hall.

McCaffrey had an uninspiring rookie season, appearing in all 17 games but catching just 18 passes for 168 yards and zero touchdowns. However, he still has potential to develop into a serviceable NFL receiver. The third-round pick may not ever develop into a superstar like his brother Christian, but he still has plenty of potential for the Jets to tap into.

While giving up on McCaffrey after one season wouldn't be ideal, Washington shouldn’t pass on the opportunity to get a young player who fills a position of clear need on the roster. The Commanders are currently set to head into 2025 with an aging Austin Ekeler and journeyman Jeremy McNichols as the only running back depth behind starter Brian Robinson Jr.

Hall would round out a Commanders offense that ranked No. 7 in the league last year in total yards but saw Daniels lead the team in rushing yardage and didn’t have a single running back go over the 800-yard mark. Hall could immediately slot in as Washington’s RB1 while forming one of the NFL's best one-two combinations alongside Robinson.

While bringing in another running back isn't a bad idea, Brian Robinson Jr. and Jeremy McNichols could certainly use the help, letting Luke McCaffrey go at this point feels premature. The author indicated that it wouldn't be ideal for Washington as well, but that's an understatement. McCaffrey isn't his brother, Christian, and to assume so is unfair. However, Washington still believes in McCaffrey, and its recent hiring of Wes Welker to a staff role could be great news for the rising second-year wideout.

The idea of bringing in Hall isn't a bad one. The Commanders would probably like Jayden Daniels to stay in the pocket and not risk getting injured by running the ball. However, trading away a guy with potential as the No. 3 receiver alongside Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel seems counterproductive.

Additionally, this is a loaded running back class, so why would Washington trade a valuable pick and promising young player for a running back with only one year left on his contract?
