This guy thinks he will go to either Toronto, Boston or Minnesota.

Counsell will be the subject of most trade rumors involving the Dbacks. He has a relatively low contract, is a veteran, great clubhouse presence, is a winner, and most of all can still play. Also, everyone knows Drew is waiting in the wings so his Counsells name will start flying first. On this board, everyone wants Green, Ortiz, and Gonzo gone but their value really isn't as high as Counsells to other teams (I know each teams needs are different but Counsell is the most valuable IMO). Ortiz is garbage and carries a 0% chance that he'll get traded, you never know what your gettin with Green (although is playing good of late) and he's expensive, and Gonzo has value for a contender primarily in the AL. Also, Counsell is the ideal moneyball player and the GM's of Toronto, Boston, and Minnesota run moneyball systems (which is the only reason why this guy attached those teams to trade rumors involving Counsell). I can see Boston being a legitamate fit but not the others. This will be interesting to see what happens with Counsell considering we will most likely be contenders by the deadline. We'll see how much faith Byrnes has in Drew

Hm, I guess it would all depend on who the Dbacks got for Counsell. If they could get a nice young pitching prospect, I'd hope they do the deal. The Dbacks need arms at every level of the organization, and maybe Drew is ready.

The writer(s) for this website seem to only speculate on trades based upon people's needs and surplus on the farm. While there is nothing wrong with this I would take any rumors coming from this site with a giant grain of salt.

If the right deal comes along Counsell is as good as gone. With Drew primed to be ready next year at the very latest I'd have no problem with trading Counsell, especially since Andy Green can play the utility player role pretty well.

If the right deal comes along for 90% of our team, their gone. There are only a few players in this team who are untouchable- CoJack, Webb, Papa Grande... I agree that Byrnes has a difficult decision to make regarding the Counsell situation and when Drew will be ready to contribute. However, if we are still in contention and Drew is not ready to come up, no way you trade Counsell unless the trade for us is unreal. Andy Green is not an everyday player and I would def not want him in the field everyday during the 2nd half (considering we're still in contention). IMO, A. Green is not a viable option to replace Counsell

I agree. Despite Andy Green's Minor League hitting -- he might be a steady, solid SS on the D'backs -- Craig Counsell batting leadoff is like a Point Guard. He makes the rest of the team better.

When Drew is Major League ready, I'm afraid we'll lose my favorite D'back for the second time. But I'll support that move and Craig Counsell will have to move on.

I wonder what his future aspirations are. I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up back in the organization after he retires. He'd be a good Coach at the Major League level.

Couldn't have said it any better. Counsell is also my favorite Dback and it will be tough to see him go again. I'm sure Counsell knows his days as a Dback are numbered but he understands the business side of baseball. He will end up with a contender either at the end of this season or next. He proved this year that he can bat leadoff, plays GG SS and 2B, and is a great clubhouse presence. I would love to see him have a role with the Dbacks after he retires. Pat Murphy (ASU Baseball Coach) coached Counsell at Notre Dame and has always said he was one of his all-time favorite players and will someday make a great baseball coach
