Spring training is still more than three months away, but new Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale wishes it were already here.
Hale met this week with members of the coaching staff and Chief Baseball Officer Tony La Russa to begin planning.
"What we want as a group is to teach them winning baseball," Hale said Friday morning before playing a round of golf in the organization's annual charity tournament.
"Just to get that message out to them. Some of it might be remedial to them, to some guys it might be stuff they've never heard, but we want to teach every part of the game and be real thorough with that."
It could make for longer workouts, but he doesn't expect the players will mind.
"I think players, as long as they're not standing around and looking up at the sky, they're fine with staying out there as long as it takes," he said. "As long as we have a lot of action going on, I think they'll be OK. That's up to me and our staff to teach the right way and also to plan the day where there's a lot of movement and guys are getting their work done."
