No matter his age or the pain in his back, Fred Couples knows his way around Riviera. The 51-year-old Couples started his day with an eagle putt from nearly 100 feet, threw in a few 30-foot birdies putts and wound up with a 5-under 66 Friday to take the lead among the early starters in the Northern Trust Open.
