The Cowboys really are turning over every stone in searching for low-risk pieces to add to the 2025 roster. The latest possibility? A former draft pick of the rival Commanders who, at 25, is coming out of retirement to give it another shot in the pros. We'll explain where the onetime LSU Tiger might fit in Dallas. We'll also look at which current Cowboy one respected analyst calls his top pick in the league for building an entire team around.

Elsewhere, we'll go mocking, both with ESPN's "perfect draft" haul for Dallas and a productive three-rounder that adds a pick early. We'll look back at Jerry Jones's five best draft picks ever, we'll give you a few draft-day "reaches" that might be sneaky-smart selections, and we'll examine which means more in the war room: production or potential. We're looking ahead to the offseason schedule now that dates have been revealed for OTAs and minicamps, we'll tally up what the Cowboys will spend on their incoming rookie class, we'll explore the ripple effects of what an 18-game schedule might really look like, and we'll provide the latest example of how the Cowboys are still living rent-free in the heads of Philadelphians. Wait until you hear what one local resident actually said with a straight face at a council meeting about who is apparently to blame for his town's problems.

The team reportedly brought in Saahdiq Charles, a fourth-round pick by Washington who signed with Tennessee last year but then retired shortly after training camp began. College fans may remember that Charles was suspended by LSU back in 2019 for the non-conference part of the team's schedule for violating team rules. The 25-year-old right guard came out of retirement last month; the Cowboys gave him a look as a possible depth piece in the wake of Zack Martin's retirement.

Bucky Brooks ranks Parsons the top defender in the league to use as a roster foundation right now, calling him "the ultimate front-line hybrid force" and calling out his "high-revving motor and an elite competitive spirit." All the Cowboys have to do now is lock him up with a landscape-altering contract, and they'll be committing to build around a 25-year-old four-time Pro Bowler who is just now entering his prime.

ESPN reveals their 'perfect draft' for Cowboys, mocking WR, DT, RB in first 3 rounds :: Cowboys Wire

The outlet's "perfect draft" may have been turned in before the Joe Milton trade, because it has the Cowboys taking Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard in the seventh round. That's unlikely now, but the rest of this hypothetical haul looks good: Texas WR Matthew Golden, Ohio State DT Tyleik Williams, Tennessee RB Dylan Sampson, and Notre Dame TE Mitchell Evans, for starters.

This mock sees Dallas trade out of the 12th spot to pick up extra capital- a second and a fourth- later. With the 22nd pick from the Chargers, the Cowboys take Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III. Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins joins the team with their first second-round selection, and then they get Iowa State cornerback Darien Porter 11 picks after. Maryland's Jordan Phillips, a typical Matt Eberflus nose tackle, is the third-round choice.

Numbers don't tell the entire story. Take the Texas A&M edge rusher who has just 4.5 sacks in three full seasons of ball yet is the 25th overall prospect on Mel Kiper's big board. The eye test goes a long way with evaluators. "As a coach, if you think you're worth a [expletive] at all, you're going to watch a guy with all the traits and say, 'I can get [the sacks] out of him, I can get him to play,'" said one NFL assistant. But it doesn't always work; for every Travon Walker or Odafe Oweh, there's a Vernon Gholston out there.

Sometimes, finding a diamond in the rough is the key to greatness... even if it means grabbing him well before anyone else would. This year, it could be Georgia safety Malaki Starks to the Cowboys at No. 12. Or Iowa State cornerback Darien Porter in the second round. Maybe even edge rusher David Walker from tiny Central Arkansas with the 76th pick.

It's easy to focus on the big-name busts that have come on draft day. But Jones has been responsible for some stellar picks, too. Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Larry Allen, and DeMarcus Ware all have bronze busts now in Canton. Jason Witten will get his soon.

The money to be paid to the Cowboys' 10 drafted rookies is already set by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Dallas will have the 14th-highest number of any NFL team this year. The 12th overall pick will earn a contract worth $19.38 million with a signing bonus of $10.7 million; the 247th pick's deal will be worth $4.3 million with a bonus of $85,000.

The Cowboys will kick off their organized team activities on May 19. The ninth and final OTA is slated for June 5. Mandatory minicamp will be held June 10-12. As a team with a new head coach, the Cowboys are allowed an additional voluntary minicamp prior to the draft. (But Brian Schottenheimer has hinted he won't use it and will elect to keep the schedule as normal.)

NFL moving to 18-game schedule seems inevitable: Breaking down logistics, player safety, playoff seeding, more :: CBS Sports

Adding an 18th game to every team's regular schedule could come as early as 2027. That could well mean dropping a preseason contest, starting the season on Labor Day weekend, adding a second bye week for everyone, and playing the Super Bowl on Presidents Day weekend. The changes could ripple into a complete revamping of the entire offseason program, too, leading to early-July training camps and shorter summer breaks for players. It would also make more international games a given.

Upper Darby mayor called out during meeting for being a Dallas Cowboys fan :: Fox 29 Philadelphia

A resident of Upper Darby Township (in the Philadelphia metro area) stood up at a council meeting last week and- with a completely straight face- blamed the city's problems on the mayor's football fandom. "This is a Cowboys fan," the man complained about Mayor Ed Brown. "This guy follows the Cowboys. You see what type of leadership they have, and that's what you put your trust in. A Cowboys fan. Sickening."
