[FONT=verdana,sans-serif]IRVING, Texas (AP) -The Dallas Cowboys have released Greg Ellis, ending the linebacker's career after 11 seasons and the eighth-most sacks in club history.

Tuesday's announcement was no surprise. A week before, team owner Jerry Jones said the club was planning to cut Ellis if he couldn't be traded.
The Cowboys bypassed Randy Moss to take Ellis with the eighth overall pick in the 1998 draft. He had 77 sacks and 634 tackles over 162 games and led the team in sacks six times. Ellis was a defensive end for most of that time, then moved to linebacker when Bill Parcells changed to a 3-4 defense. He grumbled at first, then tore his Achilles' tendon. He returned in 2007 and had his best season with 12½ sacks in 13 games, earning NFL comeback player of the year honors.

I love how the first line of the article says his career is over because he's been released by the Cowboys.

Good point.....If the money were the same, I'd rather have Ellis. The only area that Berry is really a better player than Ellis is supposedly as a leader in the locker room but he can't even manage to show up to a single voluntary activity so far. I'm sure Ellis is looking for more than Berry is making but I'd make a call and find out. In conclusion:

Cards don't have 80 cents available to offer anyone.

If Peyton Manning came available they don't have ANY money to work with. The little they do is reserved to get Wilson and Dansby's deals done.

Ellis is getting old, but is still a solid player. I think he will end up in New England. They wanted to get Peppers earlier so its obvious they could use another 3-4 LB who can rush the passer.

I think in the past our organisation would have been drooling over the prospect of bringing him and over paying an old man to do so. If he ends up here then i wont complain, but i know we wont have had our eyes torn out to make it happen.

A Dansby deal saves $$$ and a Wilson agreement is a "push" regarding the cap. They can still sign bargains.
