As a young kid, despite being a lefty, I was forced to write and eat with my right hand. And to bat righty when playing softball. I was terrible.
At the age of 7 or 8, I went away to camp and saw a kid (who also threw lefty) batting lefty. And I thought, "Maybe I should be doing that."
So the next time, I went up lefty, using my best Stan Musial batting stance. To this day, I will never forget the feeling of hitting a line drive into the alley in right-center for a double. It was better than any orgasm . . . never mind!
My question is -- why is Collin Cowgill, who throws lefty, a righty batter? With a batting average of .137, an on-base percent of .214 and no extra base hits, he is no Ricky Henderson.
And, just as I typed that, he hits a homerun to the opposite field. Karma!
Looking at the big picture, I still think he should experiment switch-hitting. I wonder if our coaching staff has pursued that with him.
