Does anyone know how to transfer the files that are recorded on the box to a USB drive or another hard-drive?

I've been wondering the same thing.

I think (and I really don't know for sure) but once you hook your device up to it, on-screen directions come on & you use your remote.

Tivo runs on Linux you have to boot into the file system and copy them.

You can use a program called DSL (damn small linux) copy it to a USB drive and then you should have root access to the file system. Once you get into the file system, it runs on KDE which is pretty much like windows

Actually after googling this problem this is a hard way to do it. I read you can download software packages (free) and just use a cross over cable to connect into your RJ-45 jack and transfer the files to your PC

Dish Network has the same type of think, and I was just watching an info-merical on it--that's where it said to "just plug it in & on-screen directions would come on"; so I figured it would recognize an external HD or something, but apparently I was wrong... :( Why do they have to make it so difficult????

I don't think Cox Cable uses a Tivo box?

Yep, you can use an Serial ATA drive to pull off information on here. There is a huge thread at AVSForum that details how to do it.

So you can copy from a dvr to a pc to a pmp? Or no?

There have been people that have been able to transfer the data from the DVR using the Motorola boxes, firewire, and Windows XP.

Why not use an all in wonder card, that can capture the video that way, and store it right on your PC?

Sounds good to me. I'll have to check out that AVSForum you mentioned. Thanks. :)
