How often does your connection "drop". It seems over the last two weeks I've had to recycle the modem 1-2 times a day.

Every time I call tech suppport my internet comes back up, so no way to diagnose. :bang:

I used to be able to leave the connection on for weeks at a time with no issues. Maybe a bad modem?

I haven't had to touch mine in months, if at all even this year that I can remember.

But their mail servers have been MESSED UP the past three days, but seem okay now.

I haven't touched mine since I set it up and that was nearly a year ago.

Bummer man - I hate it when my modem gives me problems though - I hate not being connected to the internet - drives me batty.

Mail servers - ugh. Is that why some of those days I couldn't get access or if I did it would just sit and spin? Annoying...

Yeah, I sent email out the last two days, some that took 5-6 hours to go out, some that just never went out.

I had that problem about 2 months ago.. turned out to be the modem. I replaced it and bingo.. no more problems.

Yeah - I had 2 days without email. Oh well.

I wonder if it is just my neighborhood? It always comes back on, but I have to reboot the modem and do ipconfig release/renew. Kind of a pain.

Sounds like you might need a new modem.

I have had the problem a few weeks ago and so did someone else I know. I doubt it is a modem problem. I haven't been troubled by it recently though.

Thanks all.

My modem is 3 years old, and every time I call cox they have no reports of an outage. I'll check to see how much a new one costs. But yeah, it could still just be a local connection problem and not the modem.

We get that A LOT. Must be our Routers.

I had some problem with the router. But amazing  if I plug my PC in directly (at the direction of tech support) it works great. I had my router masqurade my PC's MAC address and now it works fine.

I suspect Cox does not like people sharing through routers. I have no evidence of a conspiricy but the whole thing was a little fishey to me.

I do it, and I think they can tell...I believe you're actually allowed to have one more computer hooked up via router.

I've been having the same problem.

I've had to unplug my modem about a dozen times the past week or so. Lost alot of good info on posting (write a great piece, click enter & then the no connection screen comes up :hammer: )

I've called Cox & they said there is no problem in my area. Yeah right!

My parents have COX and my mom keepings calling me asking for help because just about every other day their internet goes down...she is missing out on Ebay...

I switched to Cable America and have never dropped one time. I think they are only in Mesa though. We try to keep it real over here, word!

Switch to these guys for DSL and you'll never use anyone else. You get a static IP with your connection. You can run mail servers on your line and they could care less.
