Associated Press

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Unrestricted free-agent center Yanic Perreault signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Coyotes on Sunday.

The 35-year-old Perreault, noted as a faceoff specialist, had 22 goals and 35 assists for a career-high 57 points in 69 games last season for Nashville.

He has 217 goals and 464 points in 740 games in 12 NHL seasons with Toronto, Los Angeles, Montreal and Nashville.

Phoenix has lost five of its last six games to fall to 3-9.

It isn't a bad move. Sure its a band-aid solution, but with Reino now out until Feburary (for some reason the date keeps getting pushed further and further back), there isn't a whole lot to lose since this is a one year deal at near minimum cash. Perreault is one of the best face off guys in the league, and he did put up 57 points in only 69 games. The downside is he is not very good defensively, and that unfortunately seems to be a theme with our forwards. If you are going to be successful on the bottom two forward lines in this league, you have to be able to play in your own zone, and Yanic is that kind of player.
