CAMBRIDGE — The offense banged out 13 hits as Cambridge picked up win No. 1 of the season with an 11-1 decision against Zanesville Saturday at Cambridge City Park.

"We got our hitting going today," Cambridge head coach Bob Shepard said. "We went up to the plate with a better approach today and it paid off. We have a young team and continue to fine tune things as we good. Proud of the girls today, we needed this win and hopefully we can build on it."

Bailey Kenworthy led the way with a double, two singles with three RBIs for Cambridge (1-2), with Miranda Cole adding a double, two singles with a pair of RBIs. Taylor Warden chipped in with three base hits, Alicia Smith added a pair of singles, and Chloe Davis singled with two RBIs.

Laney Harper tossed a 1-hitter with 10 strikeouts to collect the pitching win, and helped her own cause with a double that plated a pair of RBIs.

Tri-Valley 11, 3, Indian Valley 7, 2: Tessa Green knocked in four runs with a home run and a single and Paiton Murphy homered and doubled among her three hits in Game 1, as the Scotties (4-2) swept the Braves.

Murphy had nine strikeouts and gave up 10 hits in a complete game win. Larsyn Holdsworth connected on two doubles, Courtney Wolfird and Alivia Reffitt had two hits and two runs scored and Ashlyn Davis doubled with three RBIs in the opener.

Davis shut out Indian Valley until the seventh inning in Game 2 to earn the victory. She had nine strikeouts and gave up six hits, while Peterson doubled and singled with a RBI, Delaney Bell hit a double and Holdsworth had a hit and a RBI.

Crooksville 5, 12, Rosecrans 2, 4: Maelee Collins belted a two-run homer in Game 1 and Dalena Rollison swatted a homer among her two hits and drove in three runs in Game 2 to highlight the Ceramics' sweep.

Rollison, Elyse Baker and Madison Goodin swatted doubles in the opener with Goodin driving in a run. Rollison also had six strikeouts and gave up two hits in 3 1/3 innings for the win in the opener.

In the second game, Rylee Chamberlin and Brynn Lundell tripled, Chamberlin had two RBIs and Paige Frame doubled, singled and knocked in a run for Crooksville (6-0). Lexi Saffell had three strikeouts in a complete game win.

Serenaty Gibson had two hits with a RBI and Kate Ward and Ellie Worden had singles in Game 1 for the Bishops (0-4), as Emily Jenkins had three strikeouts in five innings for the loss.

Dakota Householder, who suffered the loss, hit a solo HR, Mallory Moody had three hits, and Jenkins, Worden and Kerry Thompson added two hits for Rosecrans in Game 2.

Liberty Union 13, 14, Coshocton 0, 1: The Lions tossed a no-hitter in Game 1 and allowed just four hits in Game 2 against the Redskins (0-5).

Mallorie Stamper hit a triple with a RBI in the second game, while Savannah Gambill, Jazlene Brown and Brealeigh Hutchinson also had hits that contest. Gambill (three K's in the first game) and Stamper took the losses in the circle.

Athens 7, John Glenn 3 (9 inn.): The Bulldogs scored four times in the ninth to down the Muskies (1-4).

Riley Wunder hit a solo home run and a single to lead John Glenn. Addi Babcock, Delaney Bell and Akeelah Van Dyne had hits, and Kendall Snider took the loss in relief with seven strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Haylee Young started, fanning eight and allowing three hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Baseball​


Johnstown 12, West Muskingum 9: Sam Wiseman went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, but the Tornadoes (1-1) dropped one to the Johnnies in a slugfest.

Preston Ferrell added two hits and two RBIs, Grady Dollings had a double, single and two runs scored and Brody Howard hit two singles with a RBI for West M. Dollings and Amari Harris combined for seven strikeouts on the mound.

Coshocton 8, Newcomerstown 6: Freshman Dylan Wood went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in his first varsity start, as the Redskins (1-1) dropped the Trojans.

Wood also earned the complete game victory on the hill. He struck out eight, walked three and gave up six runs, four earned, on eight hits.

Cooper George and Parker Loomis had RBI singles in the fourth and fifth innings to answer Newcomerstown scores, and Koltin Tidwell also had a RBI.

Buckeye Trail 10, 6, Shenandoah 0, 4: The Warriors opened the new season with a clean sweep over the visiting Zeps on Saturday.

Easton Rominger worked four scoreless innings to pick up the game one win on the mound, allowing just two hits with five Ks.

Mason McQuain paced the Warriors' first game offense with a pair of singles, with three RBIs with Sam Wayble adding a double, single with three RBIs. Tyeson Mercer finished with a pair of base hits with two RBIs and Tyler Harrell laced an RBI double.

McQuain stayed hot in the game two victory with a pair of singles with an RBI, with Harrell, Mercer, Jackson Hoop and Benji Weaver each contributing RBI base hits.

Tri-Valley 5, Newark 0: Winning pitcher Brady Kaufman fanned eight in six innings of three-hit ball to open the Scotties season with a victory.

Kaufman chipped in a double and a RBI, Gavin Harrold singled with two RBIs and Kade Hindel was 3-for-3 with a RBI to lead the offense.

Crooksville 8, Liberty Union 6: Kameron Savage and Brody Cottrell doubled and drove in two runs to lead the Ceramics (1-1) past the Lions.

Eli Sprankle had a single and scored three runs and Gavin Mount and Jace Thompson scored twice for the Crooksville offense. Thompson went the distance for the win, fanning five, walking three and giving up six runs on seven hits.

Ridgewood 5, Zanesville 0: Winning pitcher Connor Croy and Maison Kiser combined on the shutout, as the Generals dropped the Blue Devils.

Croy had four strikeouts and gave up four hits in six innings, while Logan Ridenbaugh and Jace McQueen had two hits and two RBIs, Grant Lahmers doubled, singled and scored twice and Croy had a single with a RBI.

Caleb Underwood struck out five in three innings, but took the loss. Mahki Murray had two singles, Caleb Hollins hit a double and Canon Mercer singled for the Zanesville offense.

Morgan 7, Waterford 5: Witten Schaad singled and drove in two runs and Aaron Baker had three singles and scored twice to lead the Raiders (1-1) to their first win.

McGwire Winner, Jude Garber and Brian Sweet added a single and a RBI and Brylee Shannon had 11 strikeouts and scattered five hits for the complete game win.

New Philadelphia 15, John Glenn 0 (5 inn.): Wylee Woodard, Carter Merry and Owen Edwards had singles for the Muskies' only three hits. Justin Stambush took the loss on the mound.

Union Local 14, Maysville 4 (5 inn.): Bryce Fisher and Kale Riley had doubles and a RBI in the Panthers' loss. Kolton Gifford and Trevor Hague also had hits and Ryan Parmer suffered the loss on the hill.

Indian Valley 7, Philo 4: Ky-Mani Phillip had two hits and a RBI and Jack Lincicome, who suffered the loss in relief, doubled and singled to lead the Electrics. Garrett Tom added two hits and Josh Gooden doubled.

Philo boys third at Steubenville: Aidan Mahon opened the season with wins in the boys 100-meter dash (11.23) and long jump (21-feet 0 1/2) and took second in the 400 (52.05) to lead the Electrics' effort.

Deacon Scott claimed the 110 hurdles (15.46) and placed third in the 300 hurdles (44.93) and Christian Long took third in the discus (135-feet-9) for the boys (64 points).

Emily Stockdale won the 100 (13.12) with Harris (13.41) in third, the 4x200 relay came in second, the 4x100 relay third, Harris (14-10) and Stockdale (14-8) went 2-3 in the long jump and Aubree DeLong came in third in the 100 hurdles (16.56) to pace the girls in fourth (51).

MVL teams shine at West Side Classic: Crooksville, Morgan, Tri-Valley and Rosecrans were among area teams at West Muskingum. Tri-Valley won the girls title and Morgan won the boys title.

Braylon Miller in the 100 (11.14) and 400 (53.2), the 4x200 (1:33.53) and 4x400 (3:45), Jaxon Pauley in the high jump (5-8) were winners for the Morgan boys, while Ava Davis in the 200 (27.77) and 400 (1:03.88) and Josie Patterson in the high jump (4-10) won for the girls.

Alexander Hogue in the 800 (2:17.53), Dalton Crozier in the 1,600 (4:43) and 3,200 (10:32), Kam Karns in the 110 hurdles (16.09) and 300 (43.82), Hayden Stevens in the pole vault (11-6), Chris Gargasz in the shot (53-5) and discus (148-6) won for the Tri-Valley boys, while Erin Hogue in the 800 (2:31.73), the 4x100 (55.42) and 4x200 relays (1:56.87) and Mackenzie Harvey in the shot (35-8 1/2) and discus (111-7) were winners for the TV girls.

Jax Prang (200, 22.41) and the 4x100 relay (44.62) placed first for the West M boys, while Brooklynn Kennedy in the 100 (13.37), Molly Spiker in the 100 hurdles (17.34) and triple jump (32-3 1/4) and Maria Hill in the 300 hurdles (54.96) won for the girls.

Brayson Hill won the long jump at 21-2, tying a Crooksville school record from 1966, and Grayson Houk set a school record with a winning triple jump of 40-10.

Area teams compete at Wayne Clark Invite: Maysville, New Lexington and Zanesville took part in five-team meet at Zanesville.

Aaliyah Whitehair won the 100 (13.21) and finished second in the 200 (27.92), the 4x100 placed first (53.44), Emma Tamasovich (16-9 1/4) won the long jump and Bella Van Wey swept the throws, discus (111-10) and shot (38-3) for the Maysville girls.

Hyler Smith was first in the 800 (2:29.18), Greyson Wood won the 1,600 (5:27), Owen Rusnak took second in the 100 (11.92), Colin Mathers came in second in the 110H (17.9) and 300H (48.49), the 4x800 won (9:42) and Connor Young won the discus (115-7) and took second in the shot (36-10) for the Maysville boys.

Aniah Barnett claimed the 200 (27.75), Alaya Hewitt (3:00) and Avery Crook (3:04) went 1-2 in the 800, Miah Wilcox came in first (6:39) and Crook second (6:43) in the 1,600, Shelbie Hammersley won the 3,200 (16:34), Gianna Grandstaff was second in the 100 hurdles (18.11) and 300 hurdles (54.67), the 4x800 (12:04) took first, Chloe Wahl won the pole vault (8-6) and Isabella Jarrett was second in the discus (96-3) and shot (31-4) for the Zanesville girls.

Evan Wood placed first in the 400 (55.79), Kolton Darnes took first in the 3,200 (12:20), Camron Willett placed first in the 110 hurdles (15.54) and 300 hurdles (43.85), Broddic Gonzalez took second in the 200 (23.92), the 4x100 (46.64) and 4x200 (1:35.04) won, Aeydyn Well captured the long jump (20-7 1/4) and Ariahn Campsey was second in the discus (109-6) for the Zanesville boys.

Jocee Bowen was first in the 100 hurdles (15.73) and 300 hurdles (52.54) and second in the 100 (13.22), the 4x200 (1:55.93) and 4x400 (4:51) relays won, Ava Snedeker took first in the high jump (4-8) and Gracie Newlon was second in the long jump (13-10 3/4) for the New Lex girls, while Carson Kellogg in the 100 (11.48) and 200 (23.03), Matthew Klinger in the high jump (5-8) and Nathan Mohler in the pole vault (8-6) won for the boys.

Ridgewood sweeps six-team meet: The General girls (122 points) and boys (116) won the six-team meet with River View, Cambridge, Barnesville, Buckeye Trail and host Meadowbrook.

Logan Zimmer in the high jump (6-4), Logan Sesser in the discus (134-1) and shot (54-4) and the 4x100 (45.29) and 4x200 relays (1:34.35) were winners for the Ridgewood boys, and the girls' winners were Autumn Joyce in the pole vault (8-6), Jaelynn McQueen in the long jump (16-6 3/4) Ridge girls, the 4x100 (54.15), 4x200 (1:49.47) and 4x400 relays (4:28), Kenzie Bice in the 200 (26.43) and 400 (1:01.65) and Ava Rauh-Hill in the 3,200 (16:23).

Cinjin Gibson won the pole vault (12-0) for the Cambridge boys and Zoey Caldwell won the 100 (12.64) for the girls.

Bentley Sedor in the long jump (20-5 3/4), Jahyden Black in the 110H (16.36) and 300H (42.76) and Dane Devillez in the 400 (54.8) were winners for the Meadowbrook boys, and the 4x800 (10:37), Catherine Stoney in the 100H (17.18) and Karrah Singleton in the 1,600 (5:50) placed first for the girls.

The 4x400 (3:37.33) and 4x800 relays (8:53) and Parker Andrews in the 100 (11.11) and 200 (22.88) won for the River View boys, and Chloee Adams captured the high jump (5-2) for the girls.
