TM is still a very good player and having him and Budda on the team is a good thing. With that said, if he needs to be used to get us a long term QBOTF, I can live.

I remember the pick in Indy. I remember the pick against Jacksonville. The guy played the most snaps of anyone on D. After people swore he couldn’t stay healthy.

There were more more than a couple games he was nowhere to be found. What impact was there in the blowout losses? He had real coverage issues in the slot this past season. Not saying it's easy or anything...just saying, he can compromise a bit for an added year if he wants.
If he is cut let's see how much interest he gets from his former DC. That may tell the tale. He is a tough little guy nut his injuries have sure diminished his play. The Cards just can't pay him what he's due. If he won't take a pay cut he has to be cut. Move on.

I think a team will trade a late rd pick for him. It would still hit our cap so they wouldn't be on the hook going forward.
I'm very critical of HB. First half of the season he couldn't cover anybody, but you could see his instincts are still amazing. Just a step late anytime he got targeted. But he got much better down the stretch. Was clearly moving quicker. Maybe he is just getting close to full health. Not every human heals in 6 or 12 months from a bad knee injury. Some need twice the time, and some can work as hard as they want and will never be 100% again. If HB can get to at least 80% we still have a great player!
HB should be thankful to the Cards for giving him the chance and paying him! Should just take a little paycut. Won't get anywhere else close to what he got here, especially now. Take the paycut, while still earning top safety money, and show the world you still have it!

Not going to happen, nobody is trading anything for 28 mil guaranteed over the next two years. Remember he has had two major knee injuries. Not to mention we have an almost 10 mil dead cap hit too.

Or he's referring to himself and a willingness to look at his contract because of discussions he'd had with the new regime. A month ago he wasn't willing to take a cut and it was headed for a showdown with a likely separation. You could read it either way...

You’d think Peterson would be trying to convince him to stick around but we are talking about a lot of money. One thing for TM to consider is if he bolts he’s not going to have Peterson’s positive influence close by and could revert back to his old college day habits if he reconnects with bad influences.

In 2018, Tyrann Mathieu is scheduled to be paid like the 5th best defensive back (CB and S) in the league.
What makes me say Matheiu is not worth the money, is that his production and play does not translate to the 5th best DB in the league. At one point in his career Mathieu was easily top 5, but that is no longer the case. His production is more on par with a standard nickel back player.
I would say Mathieu plays at the level of a Patrick Robinson on the Eagles, who made 775k last year to Mathieu's 8.1M in 2017.
That is a lot of money, and a lot of resources to tie up in a player that could be replaced by a player making 9% of Mathieu's salary, and in 2018 that percentage goes to 95% of Mathieu's salary.
I would keep Mathieu, if he were to restructure the contract he is in. See how he does this year under the tutelage of a defensive back "specialist" in Steve Wilks, and if Mathieu improves, then take it from there.

Why are we always in salary cap hell? We have to get better at negotiating extensions and signing free agents.
The Cardinals are not in Cap hell. They are right in the middle of the pack of the NFL with regards to Salary cap space and have ways to free up more money if they want.
Tyrann's contract was structured so that if it didn't work out the Cardinals had an out this season. That is why most feel the Cardinals will move on from him. I just don't see them paying that roster bonus.
