Jake Arrieta, the starting pitcher the Cubs used to pay, just struck out 10 while allowing only one hit in seven innings. Yu Darvish, the starting pitcher the Cubs chose over Arrieta, has yet to throw seven innings and has yet to strike out 10. Arrieta, now with the Phillies, allowed four earned runs in his first start, but that’s all he has allowed this year. Darvish, the Cubs’ scheduled starter in Colorado on Saturday, has allowed at least that many twice already. Luckily, it’s early. That allows time for things to change, and Theo Epstein has to be hoping things change so Arrieta-Darvish doesn’t become Dexter Fowler-Your Name Here – the kind of mistake that continues to get worse and worse.
