Cubs say they might leave Mesa for improved facilities
Envious of newer spring training complexes in Glendale and Goodyear, the Chicago Cubs are demanding improvements to their outdated minor league training facility at Fitch Park in Mesa.
In a briefing with Chicago reporters on Wednesday, Cubs Chairman Crane Kenney also said the team wants more seating than now available at Hohokam Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 13,100.
Kenney also said the team is being wooed by an undisclosed Florida city. The Chicago Sun-Times reported on its Web site that it may be Sarasota, Fla., which will lose the Cincinnati Reds to Goodyear next year.
