With eight days remaining until the NFL draft, the league is flooded with misinformation and speculation as teams attempt to shroud their interest in players and disguise their plans.
By all accounts, the Tennessee Titans appear to be set with their top pick. Cam Ward is the favorite to be selected by Tennessee at No. 1 overall by almost every outlet. Yet, there is some debate on whether he is the best player for the Titans, let alone the best quarterback.
While some still debate the merits of drafting Shedeur Sanders with the top pick, Ward has clearly solidified his position. But according to a report from Dianna Russini, an unnamed head coach doesn’t even view Ward or Sanders as the best quarterback in the class. That honor falls to Louisville QB Tyler Shough.
Shough has been rising since the NFL combine and is reportedly flying up draft boards and could possibly sneak into the late first round. There is no doubt that Shough has the arm talent and athleticism to compete in the league. But his age and extensive medical history led to a seven-year college odyssey that will likely hold him back on draft day.
Because most of the injuries were fluke bone breaks and not lingering muscular ailments, he could easily develop into a starting-caliber quarterback who could outplay his draft status if he falls. Plus, at this time of year, talk of his meteoric rise up draft boards has to be taken with a grain of salt.
It’s clear that the coach who made this comment does not work in Nashville and has no shot at Ward, making it easy to dismiss. Yet, it should make you wonder about the draft and player rankings, especially this year, when neither of the consensus top prospects will be taken with the first pick.
The NFL draft will kick off in eight days at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where Ward, not Shough, will likely be the No. 1 pick.

The quarterback I have heard being discussed in NFL circles more than any other lately is Louisville's Tyler Shough.
