Curt Schilling, who put the red in Red Sox (you may remember him from his days at Shadow Mountain HS and with the D'backs -- y'know, his second favorite World Series ring :D ) is left without a penny of his baseball earnings after the failure of his video game company.

Things are going to be tight for Curt. 'Guess he'll be applying for an on-air job.

Who knows, he may have the time to post to a baseball sports board, as he did with some of us before we came over to ASFN. C'mon Curt, give us your insight.

I wonder if his business failure will diminish some of his arrogance. I do feel for his family, though.

Foolish to think his company could go up against the likes of an EA sports, Blizzard, Ubisoft... They sell games on brand name alone.

I know the urge the knock Schilling because he's so freakin' arrogant and his opinions are so over-the-top. His political rants alone set him up for some deserving jokes after this epic failure.

But I still admire any athlete who tries to take their wealth and use it to create jobs for others. Plus, he was pursuing a passion outside of baseball. We criticize athletes for being stupid and, in some cases, beyond human engagement. For all of Schilling's faults, that wasn't one of them. I feel badly that this failed and he's now broke.

I respect him for investing his money in a new venture rather than blowing it on luxury as well. And in that regard I don't really care if he was outspoken or not. But I don't understand him leveraging his entire personal net worth for it--if that's what happened (the article says it's unclear). So many ways to safeguard that.

Being outspoken has its advantages . . . and it disadvantages, as Curt found out. As they say, you have two ears and one mouth. Use them in that proportion and safeguarding comes into play.

In other words, it is probable that Curt didn't fail in spite of being outspoken (or headstrong or pig-headed), but because he was.

I had a neighbor who was his teacher at Shadow Mountain HS and he said that Curt was always that way, even as a teenager.
