As were only a few days away from cut day I thought I'd put down how I see the 53 because I'm bored, and there isn't much to talk about.
QB - Murray, Hundley
RB - Drake, Edmonds, Benjamin
WR - Hopkins, Fitzgerald, Kirk, Johnson, Isabella, Sherfield, Dixon
TE - Williams, Arnold, Daniels
OL - Humphries, Pugh, Cole, Sweezy, Beechum, Murray, Gaillard, Jones, Toth
DL - Philips, Peters, Allen, Fotu, Lawrence, Dogbe
OLB - Jones, Kennard, Reddick, Reggie Walker
ILB - Hicks, Campbell, Simmons, Weaver, Vallejo, Turner
S- Baker, Thompson, Thompson, Brice, Washington
CB - Peterson, Kirkpartrick, Murphy, Jones, Peterson
Specialists - Gonzalez, Brewer, Lee
PS - Streveler, Joshua Miles, Max Garcia*, Miles Brown, Bullard, Gardeck, Jonathan Ward, Jace Whittaker, Fitts, Trevon Coley, Hakeem Butler, JoJo Ward
*PS rules changed this year so teams can have 2 players with their accrued season on the PS.
To explain some of my thinking.
I don't see them keeping 3 QB on the roster when you can protect a QB on the PS.
I don't see them keeping 4 RB's for the same reason. Ward would be most likely but why when you can bring him off the PS if needed?
I kept Dixon over JoJo Ward at WR due to his one year more in the system and he offers the same speed in a more NFL sized package. But you can flip that either way really. I don't see Butler making the 53.
I don't think they keep Max Garcia. Gaillard can cover inside and they already mentioned Murray covering there too. They seem to like Toth after investing a roster spot in him last year so he sticks.
I included Reggie Walker at OLB for one reason only. The other options offer no hope. Fitts is garbage and Gardeck is a desperation move. I heard Walker has looked good in camp, I'm hoping good enough to offer some upside.
It's a toss up between Zeke Turner and Gardeck for dedicated ST's. Moving Gardeck to OLB might seal his fate but toss up either way.
I here they like Jace Whittaker at CB but can't see them going that way over Jones or Kevin Peterson when they both know the defense much better and have experience. Plus he's more a slot guy so Whittaker goes to the PS.
They kept 5 Interior DL last year, I've included 6 this year. I think they go with 6 because of the two they took in the draft and they had so many injuries there last year I think they go deeper at the position.
