In yesterday's presser, BA said that the team wouldn't be announcing the cuts......yet. And I'm trying to figure out why. After all, many of the other teams, announced some, if not all, of their cuts. Are we working on a trade? Still trying to 'finalize' the list? What do you read into the Cards non-announcement? Is this good, bad or non news?

I think you answered the question, Garth. Teams have until 4 PM EDT today to make the cuts---and while some of the Cardinals' cuts have been leaked through Twitter (most likely because the players' agents want to get their clients' names out there asap), the Cardinals, as they always do, want to wait until they have made all the decisions in order to announce them collectively.

If you notice a number of teams that have announced some cuts, have trimmed down to 58 and still have to make 5 more cuts---like the Rams, for example, who at this point still haven't made a decision on Michael Sam.

Every team is hoping to trade players they are going to cut anyway...so...until 4 PM EDT the GMs' phones will be ringing fast and furiously. Wouldn't it be fascinating to be able to listen in on Steve Keim's phone calls today? I would bet he is already up this morning (5 AM AZ Time) and is already on the phone or making calls himself.

There's people they want to sneak onto their PS. They probably want the other teams to use their waiver claims on the players who have already been cut so there would be a greater chance their own players will clear waivers.

I believe the waiver claims don't begin until tomorrow

August 30 (Final roster cuts)

Prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, clubs must reduce rosters to a maximum of 53 players on the active/inactive List.
--
Simultaneously with the cut-down to 53, clubs that have players in the categories of Active/Physically Unable to Perform or Active/Non-Football Injury or Illness must select one of the following options: place player on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform or Reserve/Non- Football Injury or Illness, whichever is applicable; request waivers; terminate contract; trade contract; or continue to count the player on the active list.

August 31 (Waiver claims and practice squad)
Claiming period for players placed on waivers at the final roster reduction will expire at 12:00 noon, New York time.
--
Beginning at 12:00 noon, New York time, clubs may establish a practice squad of eight players by signing free agents who do not have an accrued season of free agency credit or who were on the 46-player active list for less than nine regular season games during each of any accrued seasons. A player cannot serve on the practice squad for more than three seasons.

I would think we are trying to get a pick for one of the load of talented WR's that we have.

Also they are watching the waiver wire and cuts themselves. Someone might become available that would impact the Cards decision on who they might cut.
