The Cincinnati Cyclones played their final home game of the 2024-25 regular season at Heritage Bank Center, and it ended on a high note.

Dante Sheriff scored the game-winner late in overtime to give Cincinnati a 5-4 victory over the Toledo Walleye. It was the Cyclones’ third OT win this season.

The Walleye came into the contest 10-3-2 over their last 15 games, but the Cyclones held their own against Toledo this season. Saturday’s victory gave them a 5-4-3-0 edge over the Fish for the season series.

Chas Sharpe got Cincy on the scoreboard with a power-play goal late in the first. Sharpe took a cross-ice feed from Mathieu Gosselin at the top of the Cyclones’ offensive zone and gave his club a 1-0 lead. It was Sharpe’s 24th tally of the season, and Gosselin’s assist was his team-leading 28th of the year. Kyle Bollers earned the secondary helper.

Toledo knotted things up just 23 seconds into the middle frame, also on a power-play that carried over from the opening period. Mitchell Lewandowski, who came into the night with 12 points (3-9-12) over his last seven games, beat Cyclones goaltender Vyacheslav Peksa after taking a pass from Brandon Kruse.

Gosselin got the lead right back for Cincinnati with a beautiful backhand-to-forehand finish, fooling Walleye netminder Jan Bednar. The 2-1 Cyclones lead held up into the second intermission.

Lewandowski struck again for the second time of the evening, knotting the score 2-2 off a rebound with 15:53 left in regulation. Nolan Moyle picked up the assist.

Just 24 seconds later, Kruse gave the Walleye its first lead at 3-2. Elijah Vilio pulled Cincy even again 3-3 with 8:16 left. Gosselin earned his third point of the night on the primary assist, and Bollers picked up the secondary helper for his second of the game.

Cincy reclaimed the lead before Brandon Hawkins tied the score 4-4 just seconds before regulation ended.

The game headed to overtime and remained deadlocked until 33 seconds left in the bonus period, when Sheriff notched the game-winner to earn the Cyclones two points and their fifth win of the season over the Walleye.
