D-backs acquire Jon Coutlangus from Reds
Arizona sends Daniel Perales to Cincinnati in trade

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded outfielder Daniel Perales (South Bend) to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for left-handed pitcher Jon Coutlangus, as announced by D-backs Executive Vice President and General Manager Josh Byrnes.

Coutlangus appeared in 64 games out of the bullpen last season for Cincinnati, going 4-2 with a 4.39 ERA (20 ER in 41.0 IP), 27 walks and 38 strikeouts as his 64 appearances ranked third among all National League rookies. His best month came in July when he posted a 1.08 ERA (1 ER in 8.1 IP) in 15 appearances.

Originally selected by San Francisco in the 19th round of the 2003 draft, Coutlangus was claimed off waivers by the Reds on March 31, 2006 after converting from an outfielder to a pitcher in 2004. In 2006 he was selected to participate in the Southern League All-Star Game while playing for Chattanooga (AA), converting 9 of 10 save opportunities. He was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on March 31.

Perales is beginning the 2008 season on the disabled list after a 2007 campaign that saw him hit .282 (156-for-554) in 136 games for South Bend (A). Perales was the D-backs' 22nd round selection in the 2006 draft from the University of Southern California and led the organization with 92 RBI for the Silver Hawks last season.

Too bad we couldn't have gotten Cueto (or however its spelt)!

Sounds like a solid pick up though, could certainly mean the end of Medders.

EDIT: VVV I know, I was just being sarcastic.

Cueto has been a prized prospect for a while now, from what I heard during that series. No way could the DBacks get him without some serious players in return... But I agree with your sentiment. :)
