Sounds like good news to me, though I wish Hudson was wrapped up in a longer term deal.

Better than nothing for sure...two more years of Hudson in his prime. We'll be very competitive these next two season so maybe that's all we'll really need him for. :)

I'm not sure if that's the case. I believe the signing was only to avoid arbritration and he still becomes a free agent at the end of this season. Same with Snyder, Cruz, and Lyon. Anyone shed some light on this?

Count me in with the folks wishing he was signed to a multi-year deal.

Kinda surprising that he settled for only a 1 year deal... Perhaps being injured most of last season seriously affected his ability to grab a more lucrative, longer-term deal... At the same time, why did the team only give him a 1 year deal?

The team probably would not have offered anything more than just one year. The reasoning behind this would that, obviously, more years means more monies. With Bonifacio and even Burke representing a younger, cheaper 2nd baseman, why would the D'backs want to invest anything more than one year? I like Hudson. He is a great baseball player, but the economic position that Arizona finds itself in allows this deal to make sense. If it was a purely baseball move, Hudson would be here for 4-5 seasons. Yet, that is not the case.

He will, most likely, sign with another team when his contract is up or he could even be traded but I think that is unlikely.

So, Hudson's still a UFA after this season, correct? He might be gone at the deadline if the D-Backs aren't near 1st place the end of July. My feeling is they will be in contention and he'll last out the year. Then he'll get his long term deal somewhere else.

Surprised at signing Hudson; relieved at signing Brandon Lyon.

Nothing to be surprised about with regard to Hudson.

"If a player is drafted and is offered a contract by his drafting team (or any team he is traded to) each year, he may not become a free agent until he has been on a major league roster or disabled list for at least six years."

He only has five years of service so he's not a free agent until after this year.

Of course we'll be in contention. We got ourselves one fantastic team this season. :)
