Bats go cold again. Two times lead off man on second with no outs - nothing to show for it.

At least Webb is keeping them in the game: 0-0 after 4.

Snyder is good for something. 2-0 DBacks in the top of the fifth. Webb will need to keep up the defensive pressure through 9, I think. But he is at 55 pitches through 4 right now.

So, if it is still 2-0 in the bottom of the ninth and Webb is not in due to pitch count, do you want Valverde in? Don't feel good about it tonight.

Doing the little things. Orlando Hudson hustles out a routine play to second and beats the throw with 2 down, Drew then goes yard for a five run lead.

How did Reynolds get on? I went to the bathroom and then he heard "Stephen Drew 3 run homer!!!!"

EDIT: Dbacks fielders doing their best to try to blow the game

Nice game DBacks. Let's hope Livan pitches another gem tomorrow. 5-1 final. Are they really going to give Webb an earned run for that?

No its unearned
The official scorer gave an error to Reynolds on the throw.

Gracey, an ol' first baseman, said Conor Jackson should have caught it, and that the error should have been on him.

I disagree with all those who say that you can put your weakest fielder at 1B.

The first baseman controls (or doesn't control) potential throws from 2B, SS, 3B, P, and C (five of the other eight players on the field).

If they lose confidence in his ability to catch anything within reach, it affects their fielding . . . and their desire to try for a great play. They become too conservative.

That's why Tony Clark is my favorite D'back. In addition to his power hitting, his fielding makes those other five better.

That, and the fact that I'm a lefty and enjoyed playing 1B in baseball or softball.

It was nice hearing that this is a game between the 2 best teams in the NL. I just hope they can keep this going. The D-Backs have been terrible in June, but if they can survive this month....maybe, just maybe, the playoffs?
