The top 2 vote getters for the 2003 NLROY are both out of baseball now. Wow.

Willis' mechanics were awful when he came into the league, but the more pitching coaches tinkered with him, the worse he got. He was a natural pitcher that had the natural knocked out of him over time, to the detriment of his career.

It's kind of like in the Matrix, after they pulled Neo out and started throwing reality at him -- they were afraid his head would pop. That's how it is for a pitcher who gets to the bigs without needing any pitching science, but then suddenly everything gets thrown at them like a physics pop quiz for the basic math student. In this case, I think Willis' head really did pop.

Scott Podsednik is batting .387 for Boston.

But 5 of the top 7 are currently out of MLB. Along with Willis, the others are Brandon Webb(who finished 3rd), Marlon Byrd, Brad Lidge and some guy named Jeriome Robertson.

Or course, in the AL, 3 of the top 5 are out as well with a 4th(Hideki Matsui) may be done before I save my post.

This was a long time coming, guy really just fell apart to the point where his career wasn't going to recover.
