Amare Adams isn’t wasting any time making an impression during his first spring at Clemson.

With several veteran defensive tackles sidelined by injuries, the freshman standout has benefited from extended reps in practice — and according to head coach Dabo Swinney, he’s making the most of them.

“He’s another guy, with (Demonte) Capehart out… and Stephiylan (Green) out for the spring, Champ Thompson out for the spring — it’s been a great opportunity for Amare, and so he’s gotten a ton of reps,” Swinney said following Wednesday’s scrimmage. “So, what we’ve seen is, he’s gonna help us. That’s what we’ve seen.”

The 6-foot-4, 285-pound Adams arrived on campus in January as one of Clemson’s highest-ranked signees in the 2025 recruiting class and has quickly validated the hype.

Swinney said it’s Adams’ rare combination of size, strength, and instincts that has allowed him to stand out so early.

“He’s big and he moves people and he knows how to win,” Swinney said. “He can destruct blocks. He’s twitchy. He’s smart. That’s what it is – big, strong, destructive human being.”

Adams signed with the Tigers after a dominant high school career at South Florence High School, where he racked up 250 total tackles, 40 tackles for loss, and 14 sacks. In his final prep season, he recorded 66 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, and nine quarterback pressures before officially enrolling early.

Beyond football, Adams also competed in basketball and track during high school, showing the type of athleticism that Clemson’s staff believes will translate well at the ACC level.

With Clemson still thin on the interior defensive line this spring, Adams has emerged as a potential contributor for 2025 — and his head coach has no doubt he’ll be ready when the season arrives.
