Why wasn't this mentioned before?

Atlanta gets Antoine Walker

Dallas gets Jason Terry, Alan Henderson and a first round pick.

Seems stupid for Atlanta since they are exchanging expiring contracts to get rid off Terry's 2 year deal.

They are probably more likely now to take on some players from teams that want to shed some salary since they got themselves about 7M$ additional caproom for 2005 and are still way under the cap this year. And since they move Terry , Eisley could actually start for that team.

I don't understand Dallas' interest in Terry since he's a much better shooter than he is a point guard. Were they really in need of more scoring? He's a very poor replacement for Nash.

This is at least partly an addition through subtraction process for the Mavs. It was quite clear that Walker is uncoachable and really hurt the team chemistry. They decided that Calvin Booth may not be very good, but at least he will try to do what he's supposed to.

For Atlanta, it was clear that Terry was not happy with the Hawks and was creating a problem. Walker will certainly give them a visible player who will score a lot of points since the offense will be built around him.

Of course this does leave them without a veteran point guard and lots of cap space. You don't suppose... ;)

If we loose the opener this year, I am gonna be PISSED

what has happened to Dallas' frontcourt? Walker is a soft player, but he can take it to the basket, rebound, and pass the ball. This trade alone is not a big deal. However, they also traded Antwawn Jamison. They substituted Alan Henderson and Christian Laettner for Antoine Walker and Antwawn Jamison in the frontcourt.

I believe Dallas is going to take a big, big step back this season.

My guess is that somehow they're going to land Kurt Thomas, but I don't know how.

I think terry was obtained to be traded again (not right away though). He is a much better assett in any trade for Kidd, which is where I think Cuban is headed ultimately. With Walker he couldn't include another bad contract on the deal because walker made so much. With Terry, however, He can get rid of an additional bad contract.
