They apparently didn't think much of our draft.

I don't know about that. Considering that Dan Williams isn't at a perfect fit for their system (they use a gap shooting NT with a couple big bodies around him, and he could be that end.. but that's not the best use of his talents) the fact that they had a 2nd round grade on him tells me they felt if he falls there, they should find a way to fit him in.

Darryl Washington I am surprised to see not on their board, but I don't know how their LB corp is built very well, and I could see them wanting larger LBers given the NT won't be occupying the middle, the space eaters are on the outside in that D. They can get away with finesse OLBs easier than finesse ILBs is my guess, but it is only that, a guess.

As for Roberts, they may have not liked him, they may also have been looking for more instant gratification than he would provide. That he was on the board is at least something to be considered, they would have been okay taking him at some point, just not where we did.

Schofield - They have Ware, and again, w/ Jerry behind the scenes and you have to believe that Wade Phillips is feeling pressure for his job, he probably would have pushed to get a guy who won't impact this year off the draft board completely.

I'd figure they probably didn't have Calvin or Dray on their boards, but I'm not worrying about what they think of our 7th round blocking TE selection, and as for Calvin, he's a small school guy who again doesn't fit a team looking for instant gratification. Not to mention, I'd venture that teams tend to be more widely split on their evaluations of those small school guys (something we seem to be quite good at).

As for Skelton - who knows, maybe they liked him but have their chips in on Romo, I don't know their backup situation, but Whiz likes the kid, he's got all the tools, and the size/athleticism/arm comparisons we keep hearing are to two guys who went in the 1st round (Flacco/Ben) and whom 1 has already won superbowls, I'm not gonna complain if Whiz thinks he can make a player out of this kid. \

That's what I was thinking as well.

It looks like the Cowboys draft a similar way that we do after the top ten.

I don't care that they don't have Cardinals listed up there. We're a different team with different needs and a different scheme (outside the general 3-4).

Asking because I honestly do not know:

How good have the Cowboy's drafts in the last 3 years?

last years draft is unknown, but looks like an ugly baby right now....they didn't have a first round pick and traded out of the second round. 3 or 4 of their picks got injured and missed most of the year. almost all of their picks only played special teams...although one guy got a couple of key sacks against the redskins in the 4th qtr of a 7-6 win.

The year prior they got felix jones and CB jenkins in the first round. both are key players for the cowboys now. then in that draft they also got martellus bennett, tashard choice, and orlando scandrick all players that have been key for dallas.

the year prior they got anthony spencer, doug free, and alan ball. all three are projected starters for next season.

the draft before was parcells last draft and it wasn't very successful in retrospect. only jason hatcher and bobby carpenter have seen significant playing time from that draft, but are role players.
