In response to losing Steve Nash, the Mavericks gave Marquis Daniels a 6 year 38 million dollar deal. He will start next to Finley.

It appears the price of a PG has gone up. Daniels is like a crappier version of JJ.

I wouldn't go that far Daniels played well on the O-side but his D was bad. Plus he made alot of dad decisions on the floor and now he has to be the starter. I think he will be a good player but he will not be able to replace Nash's output and leadership on the floor.

a crappier version of JJ? Man - I really think people over estimate our own players - you're talking about a guy who never got minutes and when he finally did and started the last 11 games of the season - on a playoff team where games actually meant something - scored 21 points a game took down 6 boards and two steals - and then scored 16 points a game with 3 assists and two steals in the playoffs. A crappier version of JJ? I just don't understand that comment at all.

Points and rebounds are very easy to come by when you wear a Mavericks uniform.

I would describe Marquis as a junior version of Jamal Crawford, but that's JMHO...

You don't understand that comment at all? He averaged 15 points in the playoffs, 6 boards, and 3 assists as a 2.

He isn't a 1, he is a 2. They are going to try to play him as a 1. He is a 6'6" combo guard that played well during a short period of time. He doesn't play a lick of defense.

Hence, my comment that he is a crappier version of JJ.

they drafted a point guard for a reason Chris - he's a 6'6 shooting guard who won't have to play the point and showed incredible potential last year in games that count in limited appearances - he's no better or worse than JJ as far as I'm concerned and as far as defense goes - JJ being a good defender is myth found only on this board.

JJ is definately much better than Marquis. I think younger too but I don't feel like looking that up now.

Just wait when teams start pressuring Daniels in the backcourt if he is starting with Finley.

I don't understand why you guys think Daniels is going to be Dallas long term starting PG - they drafted one with the 5th pick - anyone remember that? That and Marquis and JJ are the same age.

JJ is a great one-on-one defender. Did you watch any of the games? JJ is a better defender than Marion. The problem is that there is no one in the middle to stop someone if they get past the 1on1 D.

With a 5 year deal you will be with that team for awhile. Daniels is as good as Barbosa he will be a good back up in the leauge.

and that is saying something? Marion an average defender as well.

And you think Marquis is as good as Barbosa? And will be a good "back-up" in the league - I can't tell you if you're being serious or not here - because if you are then I will refrain from talking this point because it will only go bad places.

There's no reason why Amare shouldn't be a DOMINATE defensive force in the middle. He has all the tools.

What's clear is that the Mavs organization is reeling. They are paying Daniels way more than they intended.

I was talking about last year. I agree I think the Suns will focus more on D. Last year Amare was really trying to work on the O game and jumper all year. Now it is time for him to take it to the next level.

$38 million over six years come from the full MLE, right?

So now Dallas can't add any new players except for minimum contracts. I don't see how they can afford to trade for O'Neal at this point.

It looks very unlikely that Shaq will be traded at all, now. I wonder if the C's took this into account when they signed Nash?

Seriously, who could deal for Shaq now?

Does this now mean that Kobe will walk?

or does it mean that Kobe can really stress the Lakers out big time by saying he's going to the Clippers and they will lose him for nothing while destroying their team and making their co-tenant the hottest ticket in town - maybe that forces the Lakers to re-think their no sign and trade deal - and voila - there are the suns only to happy to trade Marion and next year's Bulls pick.

If Shaq's still there and Coach K turns the Lakes down, like I think he will - Kobe may just yet get a sign and trade. IT's a pipe dream - but who knows - the offseason's been pretty crazy already.

Cheesy! Is that a bit of optimism? Hangover gone away now?

If he come from the darkside of the Cards board he can do it here as well.

Dallas players apparently in shock that they lost Nash. I guess they were told any contract demands to be matched. Coach Nelson was particularly upset

I think a sign-and-trade with the Mavs is much more likely than a sign-and-trade with the Lakers. Even that I think has almost no chance of happening.

But hey dreaming is free! Imagine trading Eisley, JJ, the Chicago pick, and the rights to Vujanic to the Mavs for Nash...

Suns starting lineup

PG: Nash
SG: Kobe
SF: Marion
PF: Amare
C: ??? (but with those other starting 4, who the hell cares?)
