Dampier, Magloire, Marion?

What would you prefer, assuming we keep Richardson?

The poll would make more sense if it was based on the probability of it happening.

Marion for Magloire - 0%
Marion for Dampier - 5%
Sign a Stiff - 95% :D

I say keep Shawn!

Asuming we get Q, we'd had a great perimeter rotation of

Nash/JJ/Marion - Q/CJake/Leandro where I can see 3 pluses:

- we can go full speed with that kind of bench production
- tall lineup
- not that devastating if one of our starters is injured.

Adding Dampier for Marion would make an impact for sure, especially on the defensive end.
On the other hand it would reduce playing time for Lampe.

Sub Shawn out of the rotation above and let Q or JJ have an injury.
A Nash/Leandro backcourt wont work out as well as a Kidd-KJ one!

I dont think it would be smart to trade Shawn. Adding Dampier would not put us into a position to contend for the title.

And losing Marion would be worse than some people think.
I don't understand why he is in trade rumors anyway. He is a 20/10 small forward who never complains about anything and is never into sh##.
He is only 26 and has some more upside. The addition of Nash will help his game big time.
Ok, he wont take over games as Kobe, TMac or some players. But does he need to? In close games the ball should go to Amare anyway. Then we have JJ who can create for himself and others.

There are players who produce without the need to dominate the ball.
Gifted teams to have one!

We still have Chicagos pick next year. Does anybody know if a big man might be available then who will have an imediate impact?

I say lets keep Shawn, lets hope Q comes to Phoenix (or we can use his salary to get Dampier via free agency), add a veteran centre and fill the spot with Lampe/Jake and someone.

What is so great about Magloire?

Yeah he made the allstar game but his numbers are hardly impressive. He is still short at center. He is not a shot-blocker. He is not really athletic.

The difference of Magloire or a mediocre FA next year with the MLE isn't that much I think. Look at Mark Blount for example...

If we go for a center we better go for someone who could be special like Kwame Brown , Tyson Chandler, Samuel Dalembert or even Eddy Curry.

Magloire will probably never be better than what he is right now if he can even repeat last season.

Slinslin I disagree I think he is and will continue to improve. He is not as athletic as I would like but I like what he brings already. If he improves it is a plus.

I agree with slinslin about Magloire. So far he hasn't really shown anything special.

I don't think anyone needs to worry about the presence of another center limiting playing time for Lampe. Lampe will be able to limit his playing time all by himself.

I don't really get this.

You would trade Marion for Dampier but not for Magloire who is younger, less injury-prone, cheaper and a better one-on-one defender.

I know that Dunleavy was included in your proposal but I don't think that he has a high value.

Yes, although I admit it's a bit irrational.

Dampier has shown he can dominate. Magloire hasn't. And my hunch is that a lot of Dampier's motivation problems have been because he hated being in Golden State.

But, when you put it that way, I have to admit my position doesn't make much sense.

I was looking at this year. I hope Lampe does become the C we need but I don't think he is going to be that in the upcoming years.

Magloire had 9.1 rpg on a team that included PJ Brown who grabbed 9.7 rpg. Dampier averaged 12 rpg but their second best rebounder was Jason Richardson at 6.7 rpg - and he's a guard. Give them a healthy Murphy and Dampier's rebounding would not be any more than maybe 8.5-9 rpg.

I think that the lack of another inside guy is as much a reason for Dampier's big year. I suspect that most GM's have figured this out as well. He's not a bad pickup for under $50 million, but he is just not worth the kind of money he's asking for.
