Dampier is definately not worth Marion & Casey. Plus it leaves us with no backup SG (unless you think Barbosa or Eisley can play SG or some other cheap FA).

Not only is Erick Dampier not worth Shawn Marion and Casey Jacobsen. He isn't worth the enormous contract he will almost certainly get from somebody this summer.

Because the 5 spot is the most coveted position, We are gunna have to overpay someone that is any good to play there.

Dampier would make a HUGE impact on this team simply because he IS a dominant rebounder & a good shot blocker. Dampiers offensive rebounding would be huge paired with Amare, Marion, & JJ all being good rebounders.

Adding his shotblocking with Amare & Marion also would make up one of the better rebounding/ shotblocking teams in the league.

Nash is the guy who is gunna get that "O" running real good. Dampier would have the same kind of impact on the other end of the court.

I truely think the Suns could work out a deal sending our #1 pick pluss fillers like Eisley, Jacobsen, Lampe, Vujanic, in a sign & trade for Dampier.

With as low as the talant level is in the NBA at the 5, I cant believe people are so negative about a chance at one of the better centers in the league.

Dampier has great size & strength. he fits our needs to a "T". His production did jump up on a contract year(which is pretty common) but so did the amount of min's he was given. Either way he is a big upgrade to this team. Little Jake can become more valuable as the sparkplug off the bench that he is SUPPOSED to be....

Many of us who are intrigued by Dampier are against the "proposed" trade for Marion and Jacobsen. In my opinion that is not even close to being fair.

I admit that Dampier's average numbers over the last three years are a bit underwhelming. On the other hand, they are still better than Ostertag's, and the defensive numbers are better than Divac's. If the Clippers match on Richardson, I do hope that the Suns will at least offer their remaining $6 million to Dampier, even if they think he'll say no quickly. Dampier for $6 million is a much better deal than Divac for the same money or Ostertag for slightly less.

yes, they are better than Greg Ostertag's, but Greg Ostertag is probably going to cost $4-7 million less per season. He probably also won't require a deal that is as long as what Erick Dampier will want. And with tea exception of last season their numbers were actually quite similar.

Dampier might be better defensively than the Divac, but offensively the difference is just as great the other way around.

I agree that Dampier for $6 million would be the best way to go, but that just isn't going to happen. I guarantee he's going to get a salary starting at $8-10 million from New York (sign and trade), Atlanta, or someone else. Should we place a bet? I think I already owe you money for the Lakers. :)

This latest rumor that he is going to the Knicks looks pretty solid which has him in a six year deal starting at $9 million. That is not out of line for the starting point, but that is a long time for a guy with a history of injuries.
