I meant to post this earlier today but got sidetracked.

Kurt Warner was on Dan Patrick's radio show on ESPN earlier today. Patrick asked him if he was a hall of famer and he replied that probably not since he had not played long enough. They then went on to discuss the if's of the Ram's beating the Pat's in his 2nd SB and if that would have been enough to propel him into the HOF. Kurt then went on to question if he was to win another SB if that would get him in? It went something like this:

DP: You mean with Arizona?
KW: Yeah
DP: slight chuckle...Well...if you take the Arizona Cardinals to the SB I will personally wear a sign that you should be an automatic 1st ballot shoo in!!!
But then that won't help you much since nobody outside of ESPN will see it.
KW: Well you could wear it on the air.
DP: I just might do that.
KW: So you would do that?
DP: Well what kind of a time frame are we talking about here?
KW: slightly incredulous tone....What do you mean a time frame?
DP: Tell you what...if you take Arizona to a SB win in say 3 years I will wear a sign on the air that says you should be inducted into the HOF.
KW: You're on.

Needless to say it got the ol' Big Red Kool Aid up and percolatin' thru my veins after hearing this!!! It was entertaining and for a brief moment I had visions!!!

I am officially on the Kurt Warner bandwagon.

THAT is our QB!

I don't want anyone else. Not Culpepper. Not Cutler, Young, or Leinhart.

THAT is our QB.

I like that Kurt was speaking as though he will be here next year. I know people say "I want to stay", but until they sign the contract..... It is nice to hear him speak as though he has no intentions of leaving

I heard the interview as well; nice summary BRA. It was funny listening to KW talk about how playing football is relatively easy compared to raising 7 kids (the constant zone defense). How sweet would it be to have Patrick wearing that shirt on ESPN...

Thanks Trey. It was funny indeed hearing him talk about that. He said something like " after you put the twins to bed you breathe a sigh of relief for a moment and then you remember you still have 5 other ones to chase down and get them in there." Lol.

Totally agree...Kurt seems to have invested in the team, hopefully both parties will benefit...

I saw Kurt interview on NFL NETwork.

He said he expects a deal to get done and that he would be back in AZ.

He did mention briefly that anything can happen during contract negotiations, but said that he expects that he will be back, and both sides want to get the deal done.

Kurt = class act. Always has been. Even when he was a Ram. :D

Like everyone else I'm glad he has bought into the programme. If everything goes to plan he will proburbly retire a Cardinal.

I, too, heard the interview. He also gave an insight into how long he planned on playing. He mentioned he got into the league late, but that he'd still like to be able to play 11-12 years. So, He wants to maybe play till he's 39! I hope he plays out of his mind next year, but I think I want someone else QBing the team in 2007 or at the very latest, 2008.

He would still seem to have one more year in him. And I think if can stay relatively healthy, he can get us to he playoffs.

Did anyone hear the Emmitt Smith interview on Thursday with Dan Patrick where Emmitt said that he would trade all his records for another Super Bowl win? He then went on to say something along the lines of, "especially last year".

Dan Patrick was incredulous, "with the Arizona Cardinals???".

Emmitt then said, very seriously, "Yes, with the Arizona Cardinals."

Personally, the whole exchange has changed the way I feel about Emmitt Smith. It was classy and heartfelt and dispelled any thoughts I held about his tenure here being "just for the money".

Kurt is our QB

Highest QB rating since Lomax and he wants to be in Arizona, enough said. Emmitt, I have his jersey in Cardinal colors with a patch with a Cardinal that says "All-Time Leading Rusher"...boy does it piss Cowboy fans off.

Warner is a class act. He wants to end his career with the Cards and the Cards want him. The deal will get done.

I did hear that one Jeff. My heart skipped a few beats when he said it. It was classy also. I really believe Emmitt enjoyed his time with the Cards. I think he sincerely wanted to win when he was with 'em and I agree he was in Arizona to win and not "just for the money" as you say.

Larry Fitz was on the Colin Cowherd show one day this week on ESPN but I missed it. Did anyone hear it?

Thats all well and good and kudos to Emmitt for his comments. But he was here for two reasons.

1. We offered the most money
2. We offered him a starting job (something no one else would do)

Once he got here of course he wanted to win. Who doesnt? He may have even enjoyed his time here. But it still doesnt change #1 and #2

So what if #1 and #2 are true? It was a classy comment. It's far easier for former Cardinals to take potshots at the team.

I'm posting an article from the Tribune about Warner. Its' not only refreshing to see a player be so blunt about wanting to be here, but it's also great that he seems to have no interest in leveraging as much money as he can out of us. Otherwise, he'd be hinting about moving on possibly.

I used to think that Warner's nice guy act was a bit phony. But, from the time he had a press conference with the Bears and spoke more about playing for Cards instead of Chicago, til now, he sure seems sincere.

Warner optimistic he’ll remain with Cardinals
By Darren Urban, Tribune
February 4, 2006
DETROIT - Kurt Warner was at the heart of Super Bowl XL activity Friday, taking part in a press conference as one of 30 past Super Bowl MVPs and making the media rounds on Radio Row.

The quarterback was also confident that the Cardinals and his agent are close to finalizing a contract that will keep him as the starter in Arizona.

“We will work something out,” said Warner, who is scheduled to become a free agent in a month. “I don’t know how close, but I told my agent, ‘You and Rod (Graves, Cards vice president of football operations) go work it out,’ and they will. They are both quality guys.

“I think we are all hoping it will be done sooner rather than later, and all indications with me are that it will.”

Graves, who along with vice president Michael Bidwill was also in Detroit, declined to get into specifics about Warner, other than to say he remains optimistic Warner will avoid free agency. Graves also said the Cardinals plan on stepping up contract extension talks with some of the team’s other potential free agents.

But none is more important than Warner, who will be the team’s lone quarterback with experience once Josh McCown leaves via free agency.

Warner would enjoy the first offseason since 2003 where his immediate future won’t be in doubt.

“When I went to New York, that didn’t let me play football the way I want to play football,” Warner said. “(In Arizona), the system is perfect for what I do, and that’s the biggest thing.

“Not only do my family and I not want to move . . . this fits me. And as a player, that’s about the best you can ask for. Yeah, there is money other places, there are opportunities other places. But I want to go into every Sunday saying, ‘I have a chance to succeed based on what I do.’ That’s what I have here.”

In the meantime, Warner was enjoying a couple of days of Super Bowl festivities, something he does every year he doesn’t play. After an appearance on the NFL Network, he also took a few minutes to visit with 49ers quarterback Alex Smith.

Warner will leave quickly, however. He has no desire to hang around for the actual game, something he has done just once in a season he was not a participating player.

“It’s hard to watch if you are not playing,” Warner said.

EXTRA POINT: One of the reasons Graves and Bidwill were in the media center Friday was to “promote what the team is doing,” Graves said. But he added the visit to the center of the NFL hype serves as motivation.

“This is what we all strive for,” he said. “It’s a constant reminder this is where we want to be.”

If Emmitt came here for the money, which is Shane H's usual negative spin on every topic, it still doesn't change the fact that he busted his ass every Sunday and was a far better running back than the two clowns the Cardinals had on the field in 2005.

Kurt is a class act

I still remember him reporting to training camp with the Rams following SB 34 WITHOUT a renegotiated contract.

I hope Josh lands on his feet somewhere.
