Can't you beat the Giants? Why are you rolling over and playing dead for them?

Because the Cardinals are a joke and severely over-rated as a team each and every year. Oh, but their fans are the most knowledgeable in the majors...whatever.

I hear you on that one, AZCB. Grew up in Central Illinois a Cub fan, surrounded by Baseball Cardinal fans - I heard plenty on how great they were. They are actually my least favorite team.

I amde the point when the D'Backs were pounding the Astos and Reds that the NL Central - despite all the hype - pretty much sucks.

I agree with that...and I am a Cubs fan. It is a vastly overrated division and the Cardinals may be the top team but drop them in any other division and they are also-rans.

Well I also grew up in Central Illinois... but as a Cardinals fan... but never developed the HATRED towards the Cubs that hardcore fans were supposed to have. The Cards do have a rich tradition, and their starting eight are very scary, potent offense (until they face the Gnats).... their pitching (duh) is extremely suspect, so don't expect them to go past the first round IF they survive the regular season... Actually the smart money is probably on the Astros since they have a "decent" offense and some excellent relievers... The Cards are pretty sure to destruct (like the Cubs) in the late innings

it looks like their whole offense is in a slump right now. They are always on TV too, it should be a great offensive mathcup on ESPN tomorrow with the Cards playing the Dodgers.

Went to U of I for a year and a half - loved the area/atmosphere/Illini. Hated the 700+ in every class.

Quincy High or Notre Dame?

QHS... most notable high school BB encounter with a Springfield team was Dave Robitch many years ago when he played for Lamphier... We had the better "team" but Robitch practically won that sectional game all by himself!

I'm guessing that I'm from a previous generation... as I graduated from the U of I in '70. I didn't care for those HUGE frosh classes either, BUT the REAL reason I went to the U of I was to play in the marching band... Did that my freshman year, but dropped band after that first semester to keep up with my regular studies...

Ah - an Old Illini :D. I went there 81-82. Had a cousin in the marching band.

One of my HS (Southeast) greatest BB triumphs was against QHS in '79. We beat your team in the sectionals - your last loss for the next two plus years.

Semi small world once again.... Recently I went to Yankee Stadium to see the Cards take on the Yanks (I like visiting NYC when possible over heading to Minnesota where the D'backs were playing)... at the Saturday game I sat next to a couple of guys who had grown up in MaComb, Illinois.... around the same time I lived there, and they knew lots of Quincy references.... freaked them out that an old "neighbor" was there for the game.

sorry i know im not in the convo right now, but I just had to pipe in. My best friend (who lives in phx) goes to Quincy U. for college. And I know a girl at my school who was raised there, too.

Just thought that was kind of cool :)

I went to Western Illinois for a year and a half. Loved the atmosphere, partying...forgot to go to class. :D

Macomb, the jewel of western Illinois!
