New England just cut Tommie Kelly. Coming off a Knee injury but looks real good from what I've seen this pre-season and looks like he is in shape. No more front porch. No one in NE knows why he was cut. He was always more of 4-3 DT but the way AZ plays their 3-4 he would plug right in. Thoughts?

When I heard he was cut yesterday, I thought the Cards should look at him. I'd also look at Will Smith and see if he has any pass rush left in him.

Every year Bellichek brings in a few oldies to see if they have anything left, and you can be fairly sure than when he cuts them..... THEY ARE DONE!

I am a Pats fan and watch them pretty closely. I started to follow the Cards last year. I have been a Tommie Kelly fan since his days in Oakland. IMO he is definitely not done. As a matter of fact, he was the Pats best interior DLineman before he got hurt last year( Wilfork was playing hurt)and he has looked great in camp this preseason IMO. I am not privy to what goes on behind the scene, but everyone says he is great in the locker room, too. No one on the Pats message boards(patsfans.com) can understand why BB cut Kelly. Kelly renegotiated his contract to stay this past offseason. He worked hard in rehab and He looks to be in great shape. I was amazed the other night how thin he looked. He looked like Richard Seymour, Same number. Same Build. The Tommie Kelly I know had a front porch. This Tommie Kelly looked to go about 310-315. I don't know if Bill Belichick(BB) feels he has alot of good young DL that he wants to keep but I don't see it. Kelly has been running with the first team all summer and can plug up the run and also get after the passer. If Kelly signs out in AZ, I think you just replaced DD without missing a beat. Kelly and Matt Shaughnessy are also good friends so that should help convince him to sign.

As far as the othe cut the Patriots made, Will Smith. I hate to say it, but I think the tank is empty there. He has not looked good in camp other than a few sporadic plays here and there.

The Pats also cut James Anderson. He was pretty good LB for the Bears last year. The Pats brought him in to be 4th LB/Coverage LB and he looked very inconsistent in camp. He didn't look very good in coverage during camp, and I am sure the Pats were disappointed that he struggled particularly with coverage but knowing the Cards problem covering TE's he might be worth a look.

Saw something on Twitter (can't remember who), about the Pats wanting to get him back after week 1 when they don't have to guarantee his salary for the year.

Wasn't Kelly the one who made the remarks about Kolb, "this boy's scared"?

Yep. He would fit perfect in our defense. If Cards, sign him we are golden on D!

If he passes the physical, it would be a good signing. And get him on the field for a one game tryout, this Thursday, as Isaac didn't show me (what do I know?) anything on Sunday. B/t/w, did that McBriar(??) guy even play on Sunday?

Soopaga play in the league since 2004 like tommy kelly

Tommy kelly 440 tackle 36.5 sacks
Soopaga 228 tackle 8.5 sacks

I dont see how they could prefer soopaga

Soap isn't a pass rusher, never has been. What he does is stop the run pretty darn good.

– The surgery for DT Darnell Dockett went well, Arians said. Dockett remains in Alabama, where Dr. James Andrews did the work, and will be there abut five days, Arians said. It was a “clean” ACL injury — no ancillary damage — and Arians said Dockett was doing well after trading texts. “He is in really good spirits, anxious to get back,” Arians said.
