That is after we re-sign LD (ARI), and sign T/G Eric Steinbach (CIN), WR/PR Shaun MacDonald (STL), OLB Cato June (IND) and CB Asante Samuel (NE).

You don't want much Mitch!

As for Johnson, refer to my post on the next page. Jared Zabransky? Maybe as a UDFA. He has really no chance at all to be drafted. Someone will sign him and give him a shot I'm sure. I'm not certain...but I am 95% positive he didn't get invited to the combine.

Darnik44: This isn't a great draft for WRs...and if it were me I would take Ginn and Jarrett over Johnson...Ginn for his pure speed and return ability and Jarrett for his star power (he shows up when the big lights are on, doesn't he?). That doesn't mean to say I don't recognize Johnson's talent...but there were games I saw of his where he got awfully quiet for long stretches...and as Skkorp said, even ND doubled him and shut him out for a half...which was aided and abetted by the fact that Johnson's strength isn't going over the middle.

As for Zabransky...he is a sentimental pick...after what he did for Boise St. in our stadium in the Fiesta Bowl, it would be great karma to add him to the roster.

I agree with you...he may not even get drafted. Although, I have a sneaking suspicion he will, probably late in round 7.

Ah, Beerz, the sarcasm misses if you consider history. I trust my own eyes more than the "experts" opinions.

The experts loved David Terrell, Ryan Leaf, Andre Wadsworth, Gallery and many others who sucked. In my case, I don't express opinions on guys I have not seen and I'm not shy about supporting players who impressed me but didn't get the experts attention.

I like QB Troy Smith. Most don't. I don't like WR Ted Ginn. Most do. I don't like QB Brohm from Louisville. Most do. I don't like either Penn State player --Posluszny and Levi Brown -- but I love TE Zach Miller from ASU. I don't like TE Greg Olsen, he plays soft and is a poor blocker.

Many others, I have no opinion on. Notre Dame players Victor Abiamiri and Ryan Harris should not be in the top 100. They are overrated.

I'm torn on Jamarcus Russell. Huge talent but I only saw him twice and once was against that horrible Notre Dame defense. So, I'll refrain from judging him.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. So here's mine on your post. First off there have been alot of player the "experts" love that end up being pro bowlers, all pro's, and hall of famers. But your statement is true as well.

Troy Smith - I like the guy, I love his attitude and competitivness. But what I saw from him in the National Championship, at Senior Bowl practice, and especially in the Senior Bowl game really make me question his ability at the next level. My opinion is some what split on him.

Ted Ginn - He puts question marks in my head as well. But I do feel in the right system used the right way he will flourish in the NFL. He has steadily improved while at Ohio State at route running and everything that goes with being a WR. His world class speed always makes him a threat.

Brian Brohm - He's not in the draft, we can discuss him next year.

Levi Brown - Brown is a dominant LT. I watched him all week at the Senior Bowl and afterwards he rose on my rankings. I had him at #24 prior to the Senior Bowl. He had scouts talking all week about him. He's a very impressive individual as well. He's an excellent student with a graduates degree. He knew the Senior Bowl play book on the first practice.

Paul Posluszny - Poslusany is a throw back. He doesn't have ideal size, strength, or speed. What he does have in my eyes are far more important. He has insticts and football smarts. He has a nose for the ball and despite not extremely good timed speed and measurable he is a very good athlete. I've watched him play since he was a sophmore in high school. He was a 1,000+ yard runningback. A little footnote on him, he went to the same H.S. as Tony Dorsette. Penn State alum. and NFL Haoo of Famer Jack Hamm called Posluzny the finest linebacker ever to play at Penn State. Penn State is known as Linebacker U.

Victor Abiamiri - He was dominant at the Senior Bowl, very explosive off the edge, and showed he knows how to get to the QB.

Ryan Harris - Stuggled at the Senior Bowl at Tackle because he lacks the probper footwork. He will move inside and play OG at the next level.

Zach Miller - I like him as well. My rankings are some what of a combination of my talent evaluations along with where I expect them to be drafted. If they were straight talent evaluations, Miller would be higher and so would Michael Bush. Both player will be drafted beyond where there talent fits them among the draft class. This is because of needs that NFL teams have. TE and RB are not high priorities for most teams.

JaMarcus Russell - I'm torn on how I feel about him. He has a great arm, but so does Kyle Boller. I think Russell has the physical tools, but there are question marks on his leadership and dedication right now.

The wide reciever class this year is reguarded as the best in years, and maybe ever. The talent pool at WR is deep all the way through the draft. There are guys that won't get drafted that would have been 4th round picks last year. Not sure where you came up with that. Johnson did get quiet for stretches, that because his QB Reggie Ball didn't know enough to keep throwing to him. I forget the actual stat, but the % of the time he was thrown to and he made the catch is mind boggling.

These are sound analyses, Darnik. Great job!

Here are my thoughts:

Troy Smith was a fabulous college QB...but...his game does not translate well to the NFL game...he's a great competitor, no doubt...but he doesn't match up physically, especially at the NFL speed.

Ted Ginn has gamebreaking speed...and I agree with you, if he is used properly and coached well, he will give opponets real pause. I said he was a top ten lock and I stand by that. He may not make the splash Hester did in his first year, but he will be a sexy pick nonetheless.

Brian Brohm made a mistake going back to Louisville, IMO. He would have been the #2 or #3 QB in this weak QB draft and would have cashed in as a top 10-15 pick. I like him alot...he is smooth in all aspects of his play...he doesn't get rattled and he is adept at taking what the defense gives him. He's not spectacular...but just plain smart and efficient.

I totally agree with you about Levi Brown and Paul Posluszny...I think you are right on the money about both of them. If the Cardinals trade down to get an extra third and take Brown in Rd. 1 and Posluszny in round 2, I wouldn't mind...although I think Posluszny may sneak into the early picks in round three because he doesn't wow anyone physically.

I think Abiamuri is a little undersized for the NFL and will get eaten up by NFL OTs...at least right now.

Harris will be a guard, no doubt. Good call there.

Zach Miller is one of the most under-rated players in this draft...this kid is a legitimate threat...and reminds me quite a bit of the Steelers' Heath Miller...Zach is sneaky quick and has a knack for sitting down in the open zones. His blocking? Not that special and that's an issue...but then again, Heath Miller doesn't exactly bowl anyone over as a blocking TE either.

JaMarcus Russell will be the #1 pick in this draft...guaranteed. Yes, he needs to refine his understanding of defenses, etc. But his physical talents are extraordinary. He's a classic pocket passer...stands extra tall in the pocket and is fearless...what he needs to do is learn to pull the trigger a little faster...and he has the smoothest trigger...wow!

First of all, I agree with Skkorp that Calvin Johnson is more than a tad over-rated. He's a fine physical specimen...and has very good hands, but he's not a burner, per se...and he's more of a perimeter WR, not a guy who thrives on exploiting the middle.

i am pleased to see more and more of us are in the reggie nelson camp...if peterson is gone i hope he is the pick...landry is very good but in the games i've seen nelson he makes more sense for us...he looks to me like an instant gratification pick...why...he has great instincts...

I think this a deep draft of #3-#4 type WRs...but only Johnson, Ginn and Jarrett strike me as legitimate first rounders.

I am intrigued by Bowe but he was a no show in the Senior Bowl game...that concerns me. But...at best Bowe is a #2 WR and he is #4 on your list...in fact, with Ginn being more like a #3/PR specialist...the only WRs on this list who have a chance to be a #1 are Johnson and Jarrett...and quite frankly I don't think that either one of them will ever be a #1 WR. Therefore, this pool may be deep but it's very shallow at the elite end.

We pretty much feel the same about all of those guys. I'll add this, Zach Miller to me is Todd Heap before and during the catch, and Heath Miller after the catch. If you're a combination of those 2 guys, bet you're a good TE.

Abiamiri I see as a 3-4 OLB. I think he could be a 15 sack/yr. guy there and I expect that's how most NFL teams see him as well.

Posluszny I disagree with you here. He is a late first early second round pick. Doesn't wow you, but his results are what NFL scouts will recognise.

Brohm was a lock for the #2 or 3 Qb right, But he's a certain lock for #1 QB next year. (weak QB class)

That's what I mean about the talent pool at WR. How many years can you get a guy like him late 5th early 6th?

I just don't see a number of the guys you have rated above him as better - Ball is top 15 or better in WRs, IMHO.

During Senior Bowl practice Bowe was the talk of all the scouts. He really was impressive. He ran excellent routes, went up for the ball at the highest point, and made several circus catches. The one thing to keep in mind about the game is the fact that these players had 5 days to come together as a team. The player evaluation is much more heavilly weighted during the practice week than the actual game. That's not to say the game goes completely un-noted.
