As a backup? Did he even play last year?
He gets to count his Benjamins while loafing around during Dolphin games. I'd say he is quite content.Wonder how Dansby is feeling now that they can't get any help in Miami?
He's counting the money for sure. But the Dolphins have issues right now.He gets to count his Benjamins while loafing around during Dolphin games. I'd say he is quite content.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/20/sapp-porter-pile-on-ireland/As the Dolphins continue to try and fail to attract players to South Florida, more and more attention is being placed on G.M. Jeff Ireland as the reason for the current state of the roster.
On Monday, NFL Network’s Warren Sapp and guest analyst Joey Porter threw some more jet fuel onto the fire on the TV operation owned by the Dolphins and the 31 other NFL teams.
“Jeff Ireland has a big part to do with it,” Porter said. ”I don’t think when you come in and you’re being recruited by him you really believe the things that are coming out of his mouth. He’s just a guy that is not trustworthy. He really doesn’t hold up to what a G.M. is supposed to be. You think that he has the right tools to lead that franchise in the right direction but obviously nobody is buying into it.”
“Ever since he made that comment to Dez Bryant about his mother,” Sapp said, “we’ve always questioned [Ireland]; like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me?’ [Asking that question] doesn’t happen in football environments.”
The Dolphins are hemorrhaging and all they have for the cure is a box of Band Aids. They wouldn't know a QB if it bit them on the ass. There has to be something to the rumor that Miami is a wasteland and NFL players only use them for leverage in their contracts with other teams.
Think about their none too recent QB plans since Marino. Nada, zip, nothing but trash pile candidates. The list is endless.
2011 draft was loaded with QB options but they took a center. 3 years ago Matt Ryan was sitting there waiting to be picked, they took a tackle. Instead they draft guys like John Beck, Chad Henne, Pat White, etc. They took Culpepper over Drew Brees in FA. Now this year they get spurned by every glamor coaching candidate, every FA QB, and don't even try to move up in the draft for Luck or Griffin. They are pathetic. Joe Philbin, Jeff Ireland and Stephen Ross are the reincarnation of the Three Stooges.
David Garrard was cast off by the Jaguars and wasn't even on a roster last year. Now he gets to compete with Matt Moore for the starting spot. Brilliant. The Dolphins are living on a 30 year old legacy. That stadium will be an echo chamber next year and for many years to come. They will get more spectators for a tractor pull at the stadium formerly known as Joe Robbie.

Was listening to NFL radio on Sirius just 30 minutes ago and they said something about the Dolphins that reminded me of our Cards (in my opinion in years past, but some of you may think it's relevant today). Gil Brandt said he's heard there is an "undercurrent" around the league among players that you don't want to play in Miami. It just reminded me of the Cards having problems getting guys to come here and I hope that's long gone!
And I'm pretty sure Garrard sucks but I'm not too bummed about Alex Smith if he stays in San Francisco. He hasn't done anything to win them games against us and the last we played them we won and the time before that we almost won after turning the ball over 5 times. Not too worried about Smith.
Didnt word come out after he was cut last year that he was injured? When Gerard was starting for the Jags just two seasons ago he wasn't bad. If he's healthy he's at least as good as Smith, IMO.
Jake Long >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Matt Ryan. Matty Slush has been surrounded by talent and is 0-3 when the games matter most. I'd rather have Mark Sanchez then Matt Ryan.
I think it's difficult to underestimate how difficult it is for a starting quarterback to find a job in September. There were reports that Garrard had a lingering back injury that kept him off rosters last year (I think Russ talked about it quite a bit). Same thing happened with Leinart when we released him and he ostensibly still had some value.
The Dolphins are in a tough market and have to compete in the same division as the Jets and Patriots. It's pretty clear right now that they lack leadership and a clear plan for the future, which has to be really concerning. They need to consider a complete re-build.
I think that they had a core to compete for a playoff position with Sparano and his staff; it's a shame that their GM/Owner pulled the plug on him and Parcells, who were building a good if unspectacular team. That Miami Dolphins unit sells out in Chicago or Minnesota, but I guess that you need glitz to sell in a market like Miami.
