Just happened to be listening to Chalk Talk on XM radio and they interviewed David Johnson.
Mostly standard questions and standard answers but there were a few gems.
Asked about the difference he's seen so far from the college game. Of course he said the speed but he mentioned the speed of play calling in the huddle. Said it was done fast with a lot of information very quickly.
They acknowledged that it was just OTAs but had he done anything that made him think he belonged in the league? He said they were doing a two minute drill and he caught a pass in stride flaring out of the backfield and made a nifty move to make a guy miss and gained 15 yards.
They were watching film the next day and he saw it on film and the coach said that's the kind of play they want him to make all the time. As he exited the meeting Carson Palmer stopped him and told him if he could make plays like that he would be playing a lot this season.
They said he didn't have to say what it was, but had he done anything dumb and how did he deal with it? He said he remembered and he'd tell them.
He said he was supposed to pick up a linebacker blitz but the linebacker was lined up on the opposite side so when the ball was snapped he cut in front of Carson Palmer to pick up the linebacker and Carson threw the ball and his hand came down hard on Johnson's helmet.
He said everything stopped for a second and Carson was shaking his hand like it was hurt but nobody said anything and he went back to the huddle and they continued on and Carson was all right.
He said he was sweating it. He thought he may be cut if he hurt the quarterbacks hand.
Engaging guy and he came up with a good story when he was asked.
Can't wait for the season.
