Me and the wifey went to see David Spade at the Venetian in Las Vegas a few weeks ago. If you are thinking of going, don't waste your time and money, see something else instead. Though vaguely funny at times, David appears to put little or no effort into his live act. The material feels out of date. He is still doing the "housekeeper" bit from Tommy Boy and a bunch of Tiger Woods jokes. It didn't seem like he was having fun on stage, but I'm sure he enjoyed the paycheck.

David Spade sucks on TV. No way I would pay to see him live.

I could have told you that would be the case.

Housekeeping bit? Oh that is just sad.

I could never understand how David Spade could be a standup comedian. He's easily his funniest when he plays the straight man to some other over-the-top zany character. So his abilities are always dependent on having an external source of comedy. He doesn't seem suited to the one man show thing, and it looks like I'm right. :D

Did he talk about his tortured childhood? He thinks it's funny, but it's really sad. His mom's a sweetheart, though. She was an icon at Tempe Mag for years.

Funny you ask that. Chris Farley's brother (forgot his name already) was one of the opening acts and he talked mostly about his childhood with Chris. Stories about wacky parents, school, and being continually exposed to poison from a neighborhood chemical truck. It seemed like he was trying to be a character but we weren't really sure, maybe it was just how he is. But either way he not funny. He made David seem more witty I guess.
