Ilook at it as that whizz is serious about the running game seeing improvement and is putting his most trusted advisor on it. he needs help on the passing game, someone like Haley, so he hired someone specifically for the passing game to help the head coach plan
x's and o's during the week and work closely with kurt but still allows for game day whizz-ball..in whizz i trust.

Ruh roh...he's a predictable play caller.

Huh? Having an opinion is one thing. Having one just to have one is a complete other.

Did this news bowl me over? Not really - I would have liked Butler but it didn't work out. I am okay with Davis.

As for the offensive playcalling- This might have been the most predicatable move ever and I am not sure how any one is suprised or disappointed about any of that.

Keep in mind it took an immense amount of trust for Wiz to hand over playcalling this past year to Haley who he has known for years and is a dynamic offensive mind. Any OC named would have been in name only as their was no way Wiz was giving up play calling duties to some big name outsider. And I wouldn't want him too. That's one of his greatest strengths.

I'm actually excited that we now have a "run game coordinator" and another offensive protege for Wiz in Miller. So I am okay with the offensive hires.

We have to be careful as fans to not get to caught up in "names" as we dont' know half as much as the man with the headset. As fans we get excited for a "name" like Butler because the Steelers have good LB's. Well the Steelers have ALWAYS had good LB's going back to Greene and Kirkland. Maybe thats more Lebeau and the system then Butler - who has to my knowlede had no playcalling responsibilities ever. That should scare people a little more then it seems to.

Davis's resume/stops are good but his results as DC in SF are not. However Nolan was in charge of that defense IMO and I don't think he got dumb over night. Coaching only looks as good as the personnel and their ability to execute it. Go look at how excited Denver fans are that he is there.

Just like with FA's we all want to make a spalsh. But thats not whats really needed to succeed in the NFL. Its being smart with your money and maintaining continuity and building on what works. Last offseason was a prime example of that.

Sigh. I guess it wouldn't be normal if SWD wasn't fretting or being pessimistic.

But can we PLEASE give Wiz a little more credit?

Not comfortable at all with Whiz calling plays again.
How many delay of games/ wasted timeouts did we have waiting on him to get a play in?

Its not like those stopped with Haley, maybe the problem was the guy under center, not the guy with the headset?

I didn't see it that way, I remember the QB (Matt or Kurt) looking at the sideline like "WTF is it gonna be"?"

True but the difference I think is that Whiz was in his first season as a head coach.

It was obvious he was having some problems but that may have been due to the new responsibilities that he was learning as a first time head coach not the play calling duties.

Now that he has two seasons as a HC under his belt he may feel that he is experienced enough to handle both duties again. That's not an unreseasonable possibility.

WHAT?

Are you serious ?

The Superbowl was a whole three weeks ago, and this is ASFN!

I give it three weeks before Whiz needs to be fired, Boldin is a cancer and over rated, and Graves is the worst GM in the league.

Oh and I almost forgot we are going to go 3-13 tops next year.....I forgot that one.

I don't think you need to wait even three weeks on the latter two.

i like the way he split the OC duties. Grimm's expertise is in the running game so he'll be the running game coordinator and Miller expertise resides in the passing game, thus passing game coordinator. Then,on game day, Whiz makes the calls. It's probably the smartest way to do it until Miller is ready to take it all.

So are we a 3-4 defense or still some crazy hybrid mixture?

Whiz said he'd implement more 3-4 aspects but they'd keep some hybrid elements as well. Ugh!! I wish they'd pick one or the other and go with it.

Keep an eye on the McNulty hire.

Living in NJ, I've "adopted" Rutgers as my favorite college fb team, and have a lot of respect for Gregg Schiano. (His teams tend to be solid on both sides of the ball. Plus last year, he was able to turn a horrific early season into a Bowl appearance for his team).

McNulty was Schiano's OC. I've always thought the Rutgers play calling was pretty imaginative.

He also coached receivers at Jax and Dallas, which suggests that he may have had significant influence on top-notch Rutgers receivers like Britt and Underwood while he was there.

It's also nice to add Schiano's influence to the DNA of our coaching staff.

I'm assuming Miller will do fine as passing coordinator, but however things turn out, it's nice to have McNulty in the pipeline.

OFFENCE
“The thing I feel the best about is there won’t be any changes in philosophy or terminology on both sides of the ball,” Whisenhunt said. “That’s a big thing, and something you worry about. You don’t want that disruption or uncertainty for our players.”

DEFENCE
Defensively, Whisenhunt said the Cardinals under Davis will continue to do “what is best for our defensive personnel.” “There are some things we have done well defensively that we will continue with,” Whisenhunt said. “But there are some (new) principles we will incorporate that are similar to a 3-4 concept. We will still be the same type of hybrid defense. We will have the ability to do both things, which will hopefully make us more difficult to play against.”

I do believe that Butler was DC at Arkansas State for a couple of years in his coaching journey if I'm not mistaken Az Finest. Also a guy named Mike Tomlin made a stop at Arkansas State as well as DB coach too at one time. Carthon also played at Arkansas State . Just a lil' trivia for ya. Hey it's a lil' slow now. :D
