After spending his first four seasons of his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts, defensive end Day Odeyingbo was one of the first free agent signings by the Chicago Bears this offseason. Adding Odeyingbo and Grady Jarrett to their defensive line, the Bears regime, led by head coach Ben Johnson and general manager Ryan Poles, have shown a commitment to rebuilding the trenches.
For Odeyingbo, he'll get an opportunity to play in a bigger role for the Bears, and this regime believes he's someone who can play all over the defensive line for them. When speaking with the media at his introductory press conference, Odeyingbo was glowing with happiness about the opportunity to join Chicago, saying that there is no other place he'd rather be playing for.
"The history of the city and in this building, the type of players, the type of coaches, the type of people that have been in this building is special," Odeyingbo said. "And then to be able to do it in a city like Chicago that loves their football and loves their teams, it's an exciting opportunity."
It wasn't only the culture and history of the franchise, but also the vision and plan for both the immediate and long-term future of the team was something Odeyingbo considered, as well. With the players and coaching staff in place, Odeyingbo said the decision was not a hard one to make.
"With all the guys coming in and having Caleb being young, coach Ben [Johnson] coming in, coach Dennis Allen coming in, we have an opportunity to do something special in a special city and it's exciting," Odeyingbo said. "This really wasn't an opportunity I could pass up and it really didn't make the decision hard."
Just one of several new players that will be on the field for the Bears next season, Odeyingbo shares a similar sentiment with his new teammates -- Chicago is building something correctly and the potential of it being special is beyond exciting for the franchise, players, coaches, and fans.
