Anderson is on the mound. Good news: He is 2-0. Bad news: He has not gone more than 5 1/3 innings and has a 5+ ERA. That being said, I like this kid (26) and expect a breakout performance today.

And Pollock is back in the 8th spot in the order. Again.

Gibson's batting orders from night to night are as bad for the neck as watching a tennis match. :)

I see that the starting pitcher matchups in Sunday's doubleheader are:

GAME 1....D-backs....Arroyo.......ERA 4.45
..............Mets.........Montero.....ERA 6.97

GAME 2....D-backs....Spruill........2014 Debut
..............Mets.........Matsuzaka..ERA 2.14

I can't help but wonder why Gibson isn't starting Spruill in Game 1.

He pitched in 6 games for the D-backs last season with 2 starts. In 11.1 innings, his ERA was 5.56.

Still, he is bound to have butterflies. Why make him wait until the 2nd game? And matching him up against an ERA of 2.14 isn't going to help his confidence.

Chance of rain is only 10%, so that shouldn't be a factor. Why not:

GAME 1....D-backs....Spruill.......2014 Debut
..............Mets.........Montero.....ERA 6.97

GAME 2....D-backs....Arroyo.......ERA 4.45
..............Mets.........Matsuzaka..ERA 2.14 (1-0 record)

'Another example of how the fiery Kirk Gibson has turned into a pussycat.

What is the ASFN opinion? Which way would you have chosen?

Arroyo starting in game 1 gives the Dbacks the best chance of winning at least one.

Matsuzaka is making his first start of the year. He has pitched a total of 21 innings 14 games. Spruill is making his first appearance of the year.

Starting Spruill in Game 1 gives the D-backs the best chance of winning two games.

Gibson is a .500 manager. Are you a .500 D-backs fan? :)

Add in Enciarte as our LF choices and it sort of makes you miss Mark Trumbo, doesn't it? :)

At least, he'd drive in runs. The only category that matters on the scoreboard more than hits or errors or left-on-base. Which team scored the more runs.

So, supporting Gibson's decisions are not even .500 this season. :)

That's the point. In all my years of rooting for NL teams, I have never seen a manager who is so illogical, as well as inconsistent. And one who so often abandons tomorrow what he tells the Press today.

I'll be curious to see what his starting lineup is in Game 2 of the doubleheader. He rested only two regulars out of eight in Game 1.

Is he going to rest six regulars or have four of them play both ends and rest two more?

Seriously what difference does it make? Neither pitcher is that much better than replacement level.

I must share with you that it brought a smile to my face.

Chris Young with a foul popup, hit into two double-plays and was removed for a pinch-hitter for the Mets. Better them than us.

In his last four seasons, he has hit:

2011 D-backs .... .236
2012 D-backs .... .231
2013 A's ........... .200
2014 Mets ........ .204

Wow! Five of the regulars who started Game 1 are starting Game 2, plus 2 regulars who were rested, with only 1 backup (at Catcher) in the starting lineup. 'Surprisingly good move, Gibby.
