According to multiple sources, the Dbacks are not done dealing just yet..

The Dbacks are in serious talks with the Tigers to land highly regarded pitching prospect Rick Porcello..

According to soucres, Detroit has longed for Nick Ahmed for quite sometime, and when Arizona realized they could snag him in the Upton trade they did..

Sources say even though Towers is getting killed in the media at this point, there is a method to his madness

Arizona is expected to package Ahmed with another pitching prospect to acquire Porcello a deal that could be announced in the next couple days..

While there is no word as to which pitching prospect the Diamondbacks would give up, word is it will not be one of their top 10 prospects..

Ahh another starter, just what we need. Too bad he projects out as not even our 5th best SP

Hearing the pitching prospect added would possibly be Eury De La Rosa...

Unfortunately you can't run out an 8 man rotation. What the hell is going on here? We already have:

Kennedy
McCarthy
Cahill
Miley

locked in as the top 4 rotation guys, with

Corbin/Skaggs/Delgado/Collmenter/Hudson (when healthy) fighting for the 5th spot.

DOES THIS TEAM REALLY NEED ANOTHER 3-5 SLOT STARTER? This is just getting ridiculous at this point.

Makes me wonder if they plan to see how the team starts the year and if another bat is needed, use the SP surplus to make a move.

Yep... Aside from Goldy, they have no other legit power threat (Kubel would have to repeat his 1st half performance from last year...).

From an offensive perspective, the team feels a lot like the last several years. Runs will be tough to come by and we'll be relying heavily upon our starters and the pen, and hoping for tremendous defense.

These may be the only types of teams Kevin Towers can/will assemble.

Someone correct me here..

When the Bauer-for-Didi vomit inducing deal was made; the apologist used the excuse that Bauer was a "surplus" and thus was expendable.

Yet, this deal, they get another pitcher who seems to have maxed what he's going to do in the minors; and are negotiating picking up yet one more. Thus, we're facing the same issue faced BEFORE Bauer was given... errr traded away?

I don't think that's the proper way to look it at... as, you're assuming if we kept Bauer, his trade value later this season would've been at least equal to what it was at the time we traded him.
I honestly believe Towers and others believed his trade value was higher now than it would've been later in the year...

If that's trading him at high value, then.... Ahh nevermind.

Still doesn't answer though what happens with the current surplus of SP they have now and what to do with the 8 man rotation.

8 man rotation? Hmmm... Towers is quite the innovator! Saving arms and resting the squad for a late season push? Love it!

But seriously... the rotation to start the year will most likely look like:

Kennedy
McCarthy
Cahill
Miley
Corbin

Skaggs and DelGado will either be in Reno or, maybe used in middle innings??
Hudson won't be back until June or so... and by then, a move or two to bring in more offense could very well be happening...

Fair enough, but who's odd man out then? Delgado is supposed to be the blue chipper of this deal; and he's maxed out what he's going to accomplish in Reno (as has Skaggs for what that's worth), so who do you see being the "chips" to go?

I think Skaggs will win the last spot. Of all our pitchers, he is the one that could be a true #1 guy. I'm still not sold on Miley just due to his stuff, and McCarthy will have to show he is healthy.

I wonder who will be pulling the trigger on this since KT is headed on vacation to South Africa tomorrow.

Knowing Towers we will probably toss Skaggs in, because keeping him would mean a surplus of arms.

Teams move hitters at/near the deadline for young prospect pitchers all the time.

If we're near contention, we have options.

Last year we signed Kubel while he was "vacationing" in Africa or somewhere like that..

I think he works no matter what.. like many of us haha
