I know our starting pitching has been good and our relievers have done well, other than Medders, and I know we have won a lot of one run ball games, but for us to be 42-31 is very unexpected, especially with how crappy our hitters have been.

Going into this season I thought that Quentin would hit right around .265 with power numbers worthy to keep his bat in the lineup, Drew would be right around .300 with alot of gap shot doubles, and Young would be doing slightly better than he is. Not to mention the crappy jobs that Jackson, Snyder, and Tracy have put up offensively.

Thanks to Byrnes and Hudson, this season is alive, lets get some other bats going.

However I can not ignore the fact that we are 42-31 despite our efforts to be much worse. I am having difficulty understanding how that record is possible, and how much room for growth we have based upon the underperforming players on our roster. However we have to watch out because Byrnes is a notorious first half player, and someone better pick up his slack... Quentin, Drew, Young, Jackson....

It's not a fluke, but I do believe it is a bit deceiving. Mostly because of what you mentioned.

Guys like Davis and Livan pitched out of their minds for a stretch there and it carried the team while the offense was putrid. Now they are coming back to earth a little bit and the offense still isn't very good. Now with Randy on the DL things are looking worse too.

If the offense gets going and puts up consistent numbers then it will balance out the drop in pitching, but until that happens I'm not terribly optimistic.

That, and it seems like when the team played the top teams in baseball (the Mets, the Yankees, the Red Sox) they appeared to be totally outclassed. Not a big deal, though, as this isn't supposed to be the year they contend.

Tracy has had a very nice year offensively for him. Just because he hasn't hit homers until recently people think he's struggling...

I don't know if it's a fluke. We're doing okay in June so far and that's a good sign. I think the hitting will improve a bit as the season progresses while the pitching goes down a bit. We should stay near the top of the division and are good enough to be a wild card team, but a trade needs to happen if we want to pass the first round.

The D-Backs have had fluky records before, but this one has lasted for a while now.

I like the fact that Webb and Owings could be our Maddox and Glavine for the next 8 years.

the guy next to me at the game yesterday was saying the dbacks suck and their record means nothing, which makes no sense to me...what makes our record different than the padres, (who the guy said will win the world series)
