I admit I'm nervous because of no further movements or rumors, but Soriano, while costing more than Glausinthehaus, is much younger, much more intense, and the more Professional of the two also, with more consistent #s.. Move CCounsell to SS while SDrew grows into position[by the end of 06 probably]..Yadayadayada about our love fest with Gonzo, but we should cut ties, pay 25% of his salary, and move him the American League to DH and mentor..

My biggest fear is nothing happening

We have heard rumors about getting LoDuca, about Juan Pierre, about trading Vasquez and still nothing happening. Yesterday it was interest in Glaus by the two La's. Is this new GM just a bunch of hype or is something really good going to happen to improve this team? It sucks watching the Mets, White Sox, Phillies and others make moves and we appear to be off somewhere having a private momennt or two.

We have not made any moves yet because we're trying to find the right deal for Vazquez. If Byrnes can get some of our key needs out of that deal than our FA list shrinks. Hopefully he can get some starters, both MLB ready and prospects, for Javy or a CF. It all depends which is why its taking so long. While I'm getting impatient, I'm fine with it because you know if Joe Jr. and Kendrick were calling the shots we'd all be pissed because of the horrible trades we made. There is no way Soriano is coming here. The Dbacks can't afford him and there has been zero talk of a deal between us (he's been on the block for over a year). Economically, he doesn't fit with what the Dbacks are looking for

Good post, however I disagree. Sometimes the old saying "No News Is Good News" rings true, and in this case I think it does. I'd rather see them spend as much time at the Winter Meetings as they can trying to put together the best possible deals for Vazquez and Glaus (if they do go that route) rather than accepting the first moderately decent offer they receive.

Something's going to happen. It's almost a foregone conclusion that Vazquez will be dealt. However, you never know what deals are looming on the horizon, and how sweet the wait could prove to be.

The longer we hold onto Vazquez, the better off we'll be. With pitchers coming off the board on a daily basis, the near universal need for pitching will only drive Javy's price up.

Precisely. Keep in mind, now that Burnett's off the market, Barry Zito seems to be the top of the class in available pitchers. If what they got in return for Mark Mulder or Tim Hudson is any indication of what they'll ask for Zito, then teams may turn to Arizona for Vazquez, where the asking price, albeit steep, may not be as high.

I completely agree, however, i think that the club wants to get rid of Vazquez first before they move on to anything else. I could be wrong but thats the impression im getting.

Wow... unless that PTBN is their best pitching prospect the Nationals got a great deal. Texas got ripped off.

Wilkerson can play 1B/CF pretty well. Sledge is not bad at all either. Depending on who the minor leaguer is, the Rangers did fair. They got money for pitching. Their team can already hit (Tex, Blalock, Young, etc.) now they have money for pitching.

I totally disagree. The Rangers came out on top with this trade.

I actually have thought about it... Soriano must be moving to the OF in Washington because Vidro is at 2nd.

Wilkerson cannot play 1st because of Teixeira. I guess he would be an upgrade over Nix, but Wilkerson is highly overrated. The past three years have been average for a CF:
2003 Mon 146 504 78 135 34 4 19 77 89 155 13 10 .268 .380 .464 .844
2004 Mon 160 572 112 146 39 2 32 67 106 152 13 6 .255 .374 .498 .872
2005 Was 148 565 76 140 42 7 11 57 84 147 8 10 .248 .351 .405 .756

Sledge will never be anything other than a bench player.

The only thing that I see here is Texas dropped some payroll. I don't think either team improved at all.

Wilkerson will flourish playing in Texas. Now that Soriano is out of Texas, his stats will go down some.
