This makes no sense to me. Are you saying the decision to send down Johnson is the decision management will make? There is no way they do that because it's ridiculous. That's why your choice to do so makes no sense.
Johnson is sporting an 881 OPS and his PA/K is up over 5 this month. I'd say his confidence is just fine. On top of the fact that he's making $5M+ and isn't injured it's an amateur management decision all around.
The correct choice is keep Blum on the bench unless it's for PH or rest days, not sending Johnson down.
You and I agree about that. The correct choice
is to keep Blum on the bench.
The reality is that Kirk Gibson doesn't manage that way.
Just recently he was quoted as saying something like, "I come to the park with twenty-five choices."
Look at the time wasted playing three different 1B.
I believe it is important for Roberts to be in the lineup every day, except for an occasional rest. Not to be the third man covering two positions. Especially if it as the right-handed hitting platoon vs. lefty starters.
Regarding Johnson's performance so far this year, my point was that his batting average is lower and his strikeouts higher than Mark Reynolds. That's real-time stats. Mark Reynolds is no longer a D'back.
For Johnson's sake, as well as the D'backs (which should always be the higher priority), something needs to be done before Kelly Johnson approaches Reynolds' 200 strikeout-per-season performance.
P.S.: And, sure enough, Blum is at 3B and Roberts on the bench tonight vs. the Brewers righty starter.
P.P.S.: And sure enough, again, Blum is at 3B and Roberts on the bench vs. the Rockies righty starter. The Rockies will be starting righties in all four games of this series. That's why I posted that Johnson should be sent down to work out his problems and give Roberts a place to play.
