I love this. It's about time these guys started getting held accountable and not babied. They are pros and they need to play for their position every game. Some of these guys got a little comfortable. Complacency was a huge issue of this team.

Loved Hazen's comments on Doug & Wolf this morning. He was asked why he and Torey are hesitant to actually call Archie the "closer." He said they never just give titles like "closer" or a "#1 starter" without it being earned. He said they see very starter they draft as a #3 and then they earn their way into the #1 slot. Same goes for Archie and their view (mine as well), Archie has earned the very lofty title of "closer." Yes, he is currently pitching in the 9th inning. And he's been really effective over the past 3-4 weeks no matter what inning he's pitched in. But, he hasn't yet earned the closer title... and I agree!

With Archie's previous experience of falling out of the 7th-8th inning roles,
it makes sense to not anoint him as the closer.

He's there right now because he started his comeback and by default.
'De fault' of our extremely weak choice of relievers for the late innings.

He still has to prove over time that he is more than a 1-pitch reliever.

The last couple of times he pitched, I thought he was hit pretty hard a couple of times, but right at someone for outs.

I'm talking about Archie.

'Good point. Having to get out of jams is not
a formula for going back from zero to hero.

Sadly, because of his limited repertoire, Archie
will never (despite his personality and unique
beard) get back to the hero status he enjoyed
for a while.
