Dbacks win tonight thanks to Haren's complete game shutout. Webb pitches against Sanchez tomorrow.

good that we have won two in a row but to little to late i'm afraid especially with the way the dodgers are playing :(, it's a shame to because I think we might have have been able to do something in the playoffs with our pitching.... well minus our bullpen

Diamondbacks lead 6-3 in the 2nd. Webb with a 2-out 2-run double and then Upton uncorks a huge 2-run homer. Also, Dodgers are getting pounded and about to lose. Need to win tonight.

Eckstein with a homer. The Diamondbacks are winning 7-3. Plus, ketchup and mustard get invited to the redhead section.:)

Up 7-3 in the 9th and Slaten comes in and walks the first two batters. Another brilliant move by Melvin.

Good sweep vs the giants plus the dodgers lost so only 3.5 out now, and grats to Webb on his 21 wins that should help him in the cy young voting.

Unfortunately the Dodgers have gone up a run in the 12th inning in Pittsburgh. 4-3 Dodgers, bottom of the 12th.

And that's how it ends in Pittsburgh. My guess would be that the DBacks are back down 4.5 after tonight, given past performance against Mr. Lincecum.

Pena gets the save.
It's interesting that a reliever can get a save by putting the runners on base which put a hitter in the on-deck circle that turns it into a save situation.

That means that if a closer is looking to put up stats, he could come into a game that is not a save situation, then turn it into one, and hope that he can then shut down the opponent to earn a save.

That's not right.

And didja notice who was in the bullpen behind Pena? Brandon Lyon, the displaced former closer.

A reliever cannot pitch himself into a save situation. Of course, he can create a save situation for somebody else by putting runners on base, but not for himself.

The first two of the three runs that the Giants scored in the 9th inning last night were put on base by Slaten (who got no one out), and the third by Pena, if I remember right.

I guess that's the technicality that allowed Pena to get the save, even if Pena was pitching when the game turned into a save situation. The first two runners were charged to Slaten.

At least Pena stopped the Giants when our lead went from 7-3 to 7-6.

You don't want to see the highlights of their game today. The Pirates screwed up bigtime in the 11th inning. They should of won the game.

Randy's last win was August 12 and thanks to a combination of the bullpen and the offense, he stays stuck at 294. :(
At least they swept this series, but the doomsday clock is ticking.

Thanks for starting the series thread, coyoteshockeyfan :raccoon:

One thing to note is the Dodgers and Giants unbelievable ability to screw each other over late in pennant races. And they got six left against each other including three in the Bay to close the season.
